Default Strange misfiring problem w/ OBD-0 B16

Hey guys,

Recently I thought I had fixed my misfiring and jumpy tach problem but they are once again back. I origionally fixed the jumping tach problem by simply taking off the dizzy cap and snugging up a few connections, I don't even know if thats what fixed it, but the problem was solved...temporarily.

Fast forward to a few days ago when the tach started jumping on the highway again, I figure I'll take the cap off again and check the connections and all will be fine, the exact opposite seems to have happened. All the connections appear to be tight and I couldn't see anything visibly wrong.

On top of that I'm having a horrible misfiring problem this time, it will misfire at partial throttle 2000-3500 RPM and at full throttle higher up in the revs. The jumping tach issue has also gotten far worse since I took the cap off.

So far I've checked:
Connections on the ignitor
Negative terminal on the battery
Ground wires on the valve cover

At this point I'm assuming it's either the ignitor or the cap/rotor. Which ignitors can I use in my OBD-0 B16 dizzy? I've been told any 88-00 ignitor will work, is this true?

Would it be worth it to purchase an MSD cap and coil and convert it to external coil? Would I need anything other than the cap and coil? What other parts/grounds should I check?

I should also mention that there is a short somewhere in my turn signal, the front pass. side blinks very dim when there is a bulb in it, so I just used my bumper lights (not installed) hookup to power the turn signals for now. Could the short be causing the crazy tach?

Thanks

Igniter.

Should be able to use any OBD-0 igniter.

Just buy a new cap & rotor, the cap is like $15 & the rotor is about $6. I bought mine yesterday, it didn't solve my problem, but at least u will eliminate a couple possibilities. good luck

Your dizzy is toasted. The sensor right behind the rotor has ended itself. Please purchase a "new" one and save yourself the hassle.
