Why oh why do people not just look in the Yellow Pages? Support your local economy and being able to track a guy down and beat his *** if he ***** you over is only 2 of the 1000's of reasons I can think of to go local instead of possibly just getting royally fucked over the internet.

There are over 260 million people in this country, and there are sure as hell 2 million people + in the Chicago area. No reason not to go local, but I can name you a bunch of reasons not to do it over the Internet (ex. read the post that was stickied at the top of this forum about Exploited Racing https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1083879 https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1104702 ).

I totally agree with backpurge. I have nothing against Exploited....referring to "support your local businesses".

I did, and called places.

#1 all the places were far, I would have to ship them anyways

#2 a lot of places would only take a certain order and after the prices they told me, well that sealed the deal

#3 small businesses that are coming up are not in there, I'd rather give my money to the little man trying to make it.

#4 that's what Honda-tech is for, enough said. Now back to the topic.

Not the Exploited Racing thing again, he has actually been helping me out a lot. Sometimes people deserve second chances

Not to mention i personally have discovered that about 99.9% of the time local machine shops are asking $70+/hour for labor + materials which can make simple parts like these end up very expencive, when searching around with other fabricators, we often drop our prices waaaaaaay down because we dont have as much overhead or larger work jobs to do!

I believe in the whole 'you get what you pay for', and so far it has held true.

90blackcrx - If you live in/near Chicago Ridge I can give you a list of machine shops I've worked with which are less than a half an hour drive away. Setup costs usually start at around $150, that's just for a simple piece to be drawn up and processed into machine code. Parts costs depend on how complicated the piece is and materials costs. I'd be cautious of places that don't value their time (charging sub-$50/hour for something that should be $80-$100/hour).

I've had enough parts machined to know that a lot of shops will cut corners to deliver on time at a cheap price (ie. shops running their water jet machines faster than they should be so you get jagged edges on sides of parts that they deamed to be non-essenetial though I told them the parts needed to look flawless).

Exploited is gonna do it for a really good price, not even close to $150.

backpurge you have to understand shops that charge higher prices often time have a very large building they need to pay for! I on the other hand run for a 1000sq/ft building, i have 2 part time employees which only come in when needed, and most of my equipment is paid for. I have very little overhead, allowing me to charge a lot less than others do and offer the same or even sometimes better quality peices... running a mill at higher rates then recommended acually costs me MORE money than running it slow because running faster breaks end-mills which are expencive.

Do you use a vacuum for all those curls? Or do you just brush them into a catch tray?

Hopefully everything works out, the pieces are being sent to him and if I'm happy with everything he will be seeing a lot more of my business.

Chassis, I still charge less than that, and CNC takes a lot longer to cut than laser does.

I have a buddy who does all of my stuff at cost. To give you an idea, stainless steel tial WG gaskets in .060" are about 2 bucks each, a 4 cylder exhaust flange 3/8 mild steel was 16 bucks, and a t3 flange was about 3.60. Email me at runabout4fun@yahoo.com if you need some cheap cad stuff done

EDIT: Some of my goodies I got for myself Average time for my stuff is about 1-2 weeks if materials are ordered (like the massive sheet of 3/8" steel). I have had some whipped out in a few days if they had some laying around.

All of this is done on a laser cutting machine. parts thickness is limited ot about .4" before it can't cut as well and the stuff gets sloppy.

Yes, but if you even read my post, they were GASKETS! Buddy of mine kept burning through fiber based ones, so I had some of these made for him after I measured the thickness of a few exhaust gaskets I had laying around.

Who in the hell wants a 1/2" wastegate GASKET?

So for 8 bucks he had 4 gaskets (2 spares) and still would have cost less than anything on ebay.
