Default Toyo Proxes T1-S - Any opinion??

I drive a 1999 SH. I currently run Yoko A520 in the stock size, 205-50-16. I am on the second set of these tires and I really like them. I used to have a set of Toyos T1 Proxes on a Miata I used to drive. I loved those tires too, but they were more $$$ and it's hard to compare tires on different cars...

I have found a shop that is selling the Proxes T1 for what I think is a good deal. I can get the tires for $139 each, and if I buy 3, the fourth one is free. so for around $500 out the door, I get all four. Not bad.

Have any of you had any experience with this tire? Any of you drive on it, and have any experience with other tires like the A520 or similar tires??

I think the T1 is a better tire simply because it is more $$$, but that is NOT always the case.

thanks for any help. I"m buying new tires, either the T1s or A520s in a week.

Like you have, I've heard its a great tire and Toyo's only good summer tire. I just can't see myself spending ~$135 per tire for my older GS-R right now.

I just bought 4 new Sumitomo HTRZIIs in 205/45/16 for $79 and it seems like a steal. Reviews and opinions sound good (only drawback is noise after 12-15k miles) but we'll see. I think I'll try 215/45 Azenis next.

Toyo's are great warm climate tires. I live in Seattle and they sell run great in rain, but on dry streets they are a really nice grip.

have any of you run Yok A520s either?? I love those tires, but I think I may spend the $$ and get the T1-S.

there is a deal that if you buy 3, they give you the 4th one for free....

$139 each.

sooo...

$139
$139
$139
+free tire
$417 plus tax and mount/balance fees.

I think I can be out the door for around $500. If I were to buy the Yok A520s, they are about $90-95 each, but I have to pay for all 4...the free 4th tire deal is ONLY at the Toyo place....

ends up costing almost the same....

The deal is at a Firestone tire shop in Temecula. The guy I talked to said the deal was good until the end of February. I don't have the number in front of me, but can get it if you want.

it's 909 area code.

if that's how you base your decisions you better take all the tires off your car right now, and run on the rims...

this will be the tire i get, but i dunno how to get that good a deal... how come nobody on groupbuy.com does deals like the 1 wheel free thingy...

just because i burn up my tires, I don't put on the cheap stuff.

there is a difference in ZR and better rated tires. I have run on a LOT of different tires on a lot of different cars and there is a difference.

My Prelude came stock with those crappy *** Potenzas.. they were VR rated, a relatively high performance tires and they totally stucked.

I have driven on Dunlop SP8000s, Yok AVS Intermediates, Nittos, and my A520s. I also used a set of T1-Proxes for a month (loaners when I was in the MIata club of San Diego)....

I had those T1s many years ago and I had heard that they weren't as good as they used to be, which is why I was looking for more recent opinions.

Of the tires I have used, the Nittos were ok, but not as good as the A520s. The SP8000s were ok, but not as good as the nIttos or Yoks. The AVS intermediates were on par with the Dunlops.

Of the tires I have had, the A520s are great when you consider how cheap they are.

maybe if we had enough people we could get an even better tire deal. if the dealers can afford to give one away for free for each set they sell, imagine if we had a huge group buy!!!

any so cal Prelude owners want to all go in and get a set of T1-S with me?? we can get a better deal..

I live in Seattle as well and they handle GREAT in the rain... I have no idea why it'
s not an all weather tire.

I've had both sets. Currently I'm running on Yoko A520's just since I was a bit cheap with the tire cash and I wanted a good autocross tire. I've also ran on the RE-730's as well. But anyway, here's my run down of those two.

Toyo:
Excelent grip on dry or wet pavement
Never falters in the rain
Smooth ride, quieter than the RE-92's
Soft sidewalls (higher transit responce)

Yoko:
Good grip, not quite up to Toyo's level however
Great transit responce
Not the best rain tire
likes to track everywhere on grooved highways
pretty dang loud compared to the RE-92's, RE730's, and Toyo's.

Overall the Toyo is a lot more of a performance tire for the guy who wants to be able to blast around everywhere and retain the ride quality. The Yoko is more "die hard" since you loose ride quality and increase cabin noise greatly with this. But if you autocross the Toyo's sidewalls are just too soft. Toyo's will also last longer than the Yoko's. If you have any specific questions, just post them up.
