Default Car started to overheat? What gives?

updates: replaced thermostat rated 180F and problem still persist

I pulled over as stock gauge went past center.. i'm at 90k miles right now, original 2001 cooling system components unless dealership replaced them at 60k service..

i was driving at mid rpm and after 20-30 minutes it started to climb past center, i switched a/c to heat and pulled over, the fan was working, so i continued to drive.. i had this similar problem while wastegate piping leak, but everything is fine now.. what gives?

You answered your own question. But check your hoses and clamps too.

Are you losing fluid?

hey bro chk the ac condensor, it might be clogged up of dirt........it happened to me a few weeks ago..........my temp started to go up, I checked all possibilities, the car was leaking anti-freeze from the rear-bottom part of engine.......I thought it was the coolant piping, but it would stop............

I put the car on a lift & noticed the dirt, I used an engine cleaner spray & a high pressure hose..........happilly ever after

I hope it helps you

a/c condensor sits infront of the radiator, so being clogged up affects the flow of air to the radiator........

hey its something that bugged me out but cleaning it, cleared my problem

Hey, If you are interested I have a Brand new Spoon Thermostat that I never got to put in my Teg. It opens at a lower temp. than the stock ones and allows for earlier cooling. (My car was "modified" by a guy who didn't see me or the yield sign)

And if you are interested I also Have a brand new water pump, timing belt, and tensioner spring.

SPOON!!!

On a side note, Even if you have the right of way, slow a little and check for Idiots!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe your car was on fire?

Definitely sounds like a sticky thermostat. My old prelude did that, I nearly pegged the thermostat a couple of times, then it magically went away for many months.

If it does it again, see if your radiator is scorching hot or not. This might be easier said than done, since it will be hot, but it's hard to tell the difference by hand between 150F and 220F

You may also want to check the accuracy of your indicator. If you have an an OBD2 scan tool you can check the output of the control sensor as compared to the indication sensor. Your engine may not be overheating it may be an indication problem.

update:

replaced thermostat autozone thermostat. few to choose from, i went with more expensive one and 180 degree instead of factory 195.. the hose wouldn't come off, but i managed to replace thermostat without relocating anything..

so far so good, i think this may even play a role in how my oil pressure was lower.. good thing i was using thick 15w50 and 20w50.. i wonder if any damage was done if it went towards middle for 15-30 seconds, and passed it a bit for few seconds.. this happend 2-3 times

No chance, I wouldn't worry about it. I've run it hotter than that. 3/4ths of the way up, turbo track day, 85 degrees, no oil cooler (or temp gauge). Yikes.

I also nearly pegged my Prelude's temp gauge once, sticky thermostat.

If your radiator fluid didn't overflow, j00're cool!
