Another "What Kind of Oil" Thread.....deal wit it
anyone who says search can lick my nuts, i have and no one answers my question.
im REALLY overdue for an oil change (dont ask). the biggest thing is that this car is gonna be sitting ALOT once the school year hits (extra spot in my mom's garage = i dont have to sell the car). it will probably be driven one or two weekends a month in the fall, less in the spring. i believe the car has ALWAYS had 10w30, and thats whats in it now, but should i use a heavier oil or something since itll be sitting (oil breakdown?), and i probably wont be changing the oil again untill semester recess, or should i stay with the 10w30?

why the hell would i do that. ive stored cars before (the MG every winter), and i always just throw some fuel stabilizer in....but the difference is this car will be driven sporatically every few weeks. puttting it on jack stands is kinda pointless

my family stores 2 cars every winter, both have insurance take off of them, and neither need the wheels take off. all you have to do is call up your insurance provider, and tell them to suspend insurance on the car untill a certain date (or further notice)
after consulting a few other sources and my haynes, i think im gonna go with 5w-30 Castrol GTX or GTX high milege

I dont see How it will make a difference. I would just use seafoam and get all the **** out of it that you can and put some Mobil 1 in. I was told if you let a car sit for too long you can get flat spots in the tire.

Okay d00d, stop posting in this thread because you've had a chance to offer help and you have no clue WTF you're talking about.
I'd just throw in the 5w castrol and forget about it. Study hard

how so? all you have said is put castrol in wow? You must be a mechanic.

well ,this is what my manual says. Because Honda did write it and they did make the car. Well since JDM.Accord says its wrong maybe I will just throw it away.

If the vehicle will be sitting for longer than five or six months, there is the problem of the tires developing flat spots. To prevent this from happening, get a set of four jack stands of at least a = ton capacity. Jack up the vehicle and place the jack stands under the lift points of the vehicle, usually under the lower control arms or under the frame. If you have a dirt floor, place a piece of 12" by 12" by 1" plywood under the jack stands to keep them from sinking into the dirt.

quit your bitching, i already said the car will be driven a few times a month....and i can always have my mom drive it to the end of the driveway, and then back up (she can drive a stick, but i dont trust her with a lowered car)

I agree that a heavier weighted oil would be ideal, my choice would be 5w30. Since the car will be driven a handful times a month then there is no need for jack stands but something you might want to consider is getting a battery turn off switch. This way there are no electrical draws from your car at all... http://www.jcwhitney.com/autop...10101
A couple other things I would check would be correct tire pressure, all fluid levels and check water levels in battery.
