Default Timing belt cover and crank pully

I'm getting ready to put in a DOHC ZC in my 91 DX, so forgive the onslaught of questions. I've seen people run with and without a timing belt cover. Personally I think it looks pretty cool, but would it effect reliablity? I have to drive this thing every day in about a year, I dont want the timing to go.

I know about the clearance issue assoicated with the hood. If its safe, I'll just toss the cover.

Another question just poped up: Can I use the CRX crank pully? I would assume so, since I'd be running the CRX AC. The only other thing that wouldnt be CRX is the alt, pretty much the only other pump on the engine

why get rid of the timing belt cover???? what would be the advantage?

it helps keep the belt clean, i think and its a safety guard too, you know

- besides - oil, road dirt, salt , etc. on the belt can cause premature failure of the timing belt

i say reinstall the cover(s).

I would have to agree. Just think if a stone gets down in there. Imagine the damage it could do. I know it seems like a long shot but I would keep the cover on for peace of mind.

Just keep it on.

For a few reasons.

-Keeps the belt untouched

-If accidentally something drops to there, it wont get between belt and pulley.

-All the dusts and dirts at the air cannot enter there.

So without a doubt, put it on! Whats the point of showing cam gears? :D

Well the only reason i was telling him to leave it off is because it will cause more damage to the belt when the hood bushes down on the cover. He will be to ether cut the hood, or get the ZC hood.

why don't you do it ghetto and put some washers on the drivers side of the hood hinge - enough just to clear it

better yet, put some washers between the engine bracket and mount on that side.

if u keep it on when u close the hood the cover will make the exhsust cam slip a tooth thats why people dont use them the people that do prob put washers in the mootor mounts to drop the engine down or they just bought a zc hood.

i just cut a circle out SO i could actually adjust the cam gear easily... BUT i put duck tape over the hole to keep the dust, rocks, etc. out.

unless you buy a zc hood or shim the right side of the motor down take it off. i found out the hard way broken timing belt and a blown motor it only took two weeks to tear the timing belt to shreds

so the above statement that made the exhaust cams skip a tooth is only for the dohc zc engine and not the D15B2 right?

A guy at my shop killed his the same way... Don't lean on the hood w/o the cover while the motor is running!
