I recently purchase a GSR Head without cam caps, holders and bolts. My local shop thinks the cam caps are not really supposed to be interchangeable. The head only cost me $100 and the shop is selling me the cam caps with everything for $60. Can anyone help?

 

Its not recommended.
I had two b16 heads. And i was not sure which set of cam caps were for each head. So i put the the first set on, and my cams were not spinning good at all. It was stiff the whole way around. So i then tried the other cam caps, and the cam spun perfect. I think you can get everything line honed, to make sure its cool. but not sure.

 

Anyone else most know something????

 

they are not interchangable like the other guy said, what else is there to konw?

unless you find someone capable of line honing the cam caps, i wouldnt bother

listen to this man. he knows what's up.

 

Just don't buy a head that don't have cam caps. Your cams can bind if use a different cam caps and can have a blown engine.

 

ive seen one person used different caps....he found a set taht match it pretty close ( by the touch of his finger) and he sand papered the rest....actually worked but not recommended.....

you cannot buy cam caps for your head either, from honda that is, each cam cap goes to that specific head.

on the honda parts program they are not listed that you can buy them

 

honda made each head with specific cam caps... sad to say we cant purchase just any cam caps from honda.
