Aftermarket distributor sucks!
You can skip the story and scroll to the next set on bold letters in your want...
Driving home on I-5, just south of Seattle @ 1am. Going 65 in the far left lane my 92 Accord just dies. I figured out it's getting no spark....then white smoke out the exhaust?.... arggggg.
Now I'm thinking head gasket. Hating to think it, but I am. So a friend comes out to help, changing the spark plugs and spark plug wires, I'm hoping to drive home. Nope, I'm not that lucky. Finally arounf 3am, a tow to Renton Honda.
A call at 11am saying my distributor exploded. They want $500+ to fix it. I say know, get a brnd new distributor from Shuck's Auto for $260 and lifetime warrenty. I go to Honda nad fix my car in their parking lot, right outside the service doors, haha....felt kinda good for 20minutes, anyways. No go! It still won't start!
I check all wires, connections, ......everything is ok, but no spark! Now I'm pissed.
So Honda charges me $600 cause they couldn't use good parts from the new, but crap distributor. One turn of the key broke the new distributor. To make it easier to understand....the 2 teeth from the new/crap distributor that go inside the head snapped off.
End of post unless you want to read more complaining.
So I look into the distributor case, cause my cousin's 93 Accord had done the same thing before, just quit running in the middle of a turn when driving. I find out the Honda distributors are as crappy as their transmissions. Yeah, go can also have the chance of getting one that will never die, but the 2 worst parts ever made by Honda are the distributor and tranny. I've proven it with my Civic and my my Accord.
Ok, now I feel a bit better.
