Default FAQ probably...

I was wondering, how do I get the speedometer needle to stop jumping??? its ****** annoying me because i cant gauge how fast i am really going... and I wanted to know how do i set my speedometer gauge to work w/ my 16's lol... cuz i've paced myself w/ my girls car and her 80 is my 85... and i cant get her to drive 130 so i cant tell how fast my car can go...

For the speedo problem, it has to do with how the speedo cable is plugged into the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the transmission. The cable has likely pulled itself out a bit, so push it back down inside. There is also a clip that is supposed to hold it into place, yours may be missing. It could be that simple, or it could also be that your speedo cable is screwed up.

Check your speedometer cable. If that doesn't work loan a cluster from a friend or grab one frm the junk yard. Yours may just broken.

A common cause for this condition is lack of lubrication..
The cable begins to bind and twist up causing it to "whip"..

Try removing the cable at the transmission,
and pull out the inner piece.Roll the inner cable
in a tub of wheel bearing grease coating it as thick as possible.



Roll the cable as shown,insert into grease and turn one end:

You can also shoot some grease into the cable housing with a grease gun..

thanks... thats great... with pictures... I love it! but wouldnt the clutch cabe be attached to the clutch pedal...? how difficult is it to remove that? and how do u remove the cable from the cable housing???

That's not the clutch cable, that's the speedometer cable. You lubricate that because you're having a problem with... the speedometer.

i have seen cables with dried grease causing them to 'catch' and make the spedo jump...
