for those with security systems, is it better to advertise that fact or keep it unadvertised? I think most if not all manufacturers include window stickers for your car with the alarm.
Would thiefs have an easier time disabling and stealing the car if they know what manufacturer it is ahead of time? (maybee typical install places etc..)
Or do the stickers really make people think twice?

Most alarms have a red blinking light, which warns the thieves that there is a security system. That'll be enough deterrant for amateur thieves. The pro's....well, it doesn't really matter if you put one up or not.

That, and the fact that an alarm is just not going to stop someone after a Type R. I just don't think there's any way to keep one safe anymore, short of armed guards and a bank vault.

alarm = piece of **** that prevents the dood next door thief. When it comes down to it....our cars our bait waiting to be snatched up by thieves. If they catch you or not depends on how well you think about where and when you drive your car and leave it parked. Sadly....you must be very aware of the theft issues before owning a Type R, or before you know it you'll be making that godforbid post.

yes, i am very farmiliar with the theft problem.
i know an alarm is not going to totally protect it, but like i said, i want to know if they would have an advantage if they knew what manufacturer it was.
kevin - on my way to peel them off now.

doesnt really matter really, besides most of the new alarms have a blue light which will tell the thiefs its most likely a dei made alarm system which most are anyway just under different brand names. and more than likely your alarm brain is not covered by metal so finding it and shutting it off wont be hard (how did i know this) and i bet your fuses for your alarm are under your dash too. tsk tsk. besides a sticker wont make or change their mind about stealing it... its what car and parts you have, and how well your layered security is set up which will deter them
alarms only do one thing anyway...and that is to alarm you...if it could stop theives from taking the car...it would of been called a theft stopper (sounds lame i know) or sumthing to that effect...sumtimes i think to myself...wut if them professional theives actually works in one of them alarm industries so no matter how great your alarm is...them who have a part in creating the alarms knows everything to know about the alarm already...

well then advertising it would only help them..
if they wanna steal the car a sticker would only help them not deter

haa haa.... you obviously know nothing... when does the words autolock, fuel cutoffs and leaving your car in an area for a long period of time deter the theft of someones car

I view it as layers of security. Each layer has the potential of keeping out thieves of varying skill levels. I tried to put these in order of lowest skilled to highest, more or less.
The garage is the first layer. (Keeps punk high school kids away from my emblems)
The door locks are the second layer. (Keeps bums out of my change ash tray)
The alarm is the third layer. (Keeps the crooks in training away by flashing a red LED)
The fuel pump kill switch is the fourth layer. (Keeps the thieves with little time away)
The hood latch cable relocation is the fifth layer. (Keeps the guys with experience guessing)
Feel free to add as many layers as you want.

So what you should do is put a sticker of some other alarm company on the market. If a thief does his research he'll look like an *** when trying to figure out yours.

B18C1 powered!?...
B18C1 powered!?...
Just put an NRA sticker on the window.
Seriously though, I agree with the majority that a brand name sticker just gives the good thiefs (many of whom are or may be former installers) a headstart.

If you can disarm one alarm, you can do another. There is no major signifcant difference between alarms. All they need to find is the brain and you're screwed regardless of brand. Alarms don't even scare off pros. The ONLY thing they're good for is to scare off amatures. If you don't put the stickers on, you risk them trying to find out if you do which means their going to test thier luck(prying/smashing windows) and see how far they can get inside your car.
Get a battery powered siren and pray they don't find it. Then again, I have no clue what I'm talking about like usual.
