05 S2k rev limit question
A friend of mine has an 05 s2k with the 8K rev limiter. He was wondering:
1. Is it safe to rev to 9k like the previous years? (did honda change the valvetrane?)
2. Are the cams the same (will it make power above 8k?)
3. What is the easiest way to do this (Earlier year ECU or VAFC?)
Thanks, I just don't know enough about s2k's to help him with this one.

no it's not safe..... the piston speeds at 8200rpm on the ap2 are very similar to the piston speeds at 9000rpm on the ap1's....bumping the redline up on the ap2's is going to put more stress on the engine and it will go boom a lot sooner.... people have bummped it up to 8500rpms.....9k is pushing it without major modifications
I'm just going to ask him what he plans to accomplish by revving to 9K. I think he's still under the assumption that the motor keeps making power as you rev higher. I'll just find some dynos and show him where his peak power is. That should solve the problem. Thanks for the help.

exactly.
exactly.
I had thought the guys at Ganley Honda did this already? They threw in an 03 ECU into an 04 and it works just fine. They did a few other tweaks soon after, but it was working fine last time I heard.
But regarding your friend trying to rev to 9k, tell him to go for it, but it will not. There's a two stage cut off on the rev limiter and it will creep up there, but he'll probably be starving for fuel at that time, as the injectors will just refuse to put any more fuel into the cylinders.

there was a video about this..a 2.2 stroked engine revving at 9k..blew up. i forgot who tuned it but it was a big company like j's or something like that.

Nope. Not that one. Quite familiar with that one. This is Jeff at Ganley Honda. (www.hardtopguy.com)

If you are talking about the video with the 3 S2000s, those weren't exactly normal driving conditions...

yeah, i understand that it wasnt normal driving conditions, but why risking blowing up an engine if ur only going to drive it on the street. u can only hit ur redline in 2 gears without speeding..1st and second. in 3rd..ur close to ~85-90.
