sunroof
i am trying to do that right now becuase my sunroof motor finally died and i dont wanna go get a new motor just too find out how much that stuff weighs and then put all that weight back on my roof where it is gonna effect the car the most. I am thinking of buying the carbon fiber insert but for now im prolly gonna go your route and just use aluminum i will post pics and diy directions if i do it soon
I saw someone who put a whole new skin all over the new roof, looked decent....personally, I would fix the sunroof, nothing better on a sunny day, or a nice moon filled night...

I can think of something ALOT better on a sunny day - an A/C. Regardless, there are few real options for eliminating the sunroof entirely. All of these 'replacement sunroofs' simply replace the stock panel. But the entire mechanism - and all it's weight - stays. You could try to fill the hole with a piece of metal. But this is fraught with problems such as sealing it or dealing with thermal expansion issues (if you weld). The only real option is to replace the roof panel with a non-sunroof model. But this costs more than buying another car if you pay a body shop to do it. And it requires a good deal of body work skills to do it yourself.

FYI, you can't weld aluminum to any other metal than aluminum. Since the body is steel, your out of luck using aluminum unless you just rivit it in place and use some sort of sealant.
