Default PR3-J01 or P30 ?

Which ECU is better? I'm probably going to get a chipped P28 with a stock program on it for B16 engine.

I have had the PR3, but that was when I had my D16Z6. It made that Z6 pretty beastly in VTEC, and on the highway, but I haven't used it on a B16.

For some reason, this ECU has a nickname called "Big VTEC".

P30 runs the same engine...OBD1 B16A 170 HP JDM, just in a different car, I assume they're the same, but if not, I've seen the PR3 more sought after, and expensive to buy.

PR3 - OBD0 B16
P30 - OBD1 B16

I'm not really sure why the PR3 is more sought after, I'd guess because it's not as common any more and can be used in any honda if you convert down to OBD0.
Plus OBD0 is really simple to work on, very little to go wrong. But the P28/P30 isn't that difficult to work with either.

I say sell your PR3, pick up a chip burner and a wideband O2, tune your P28 with Crome or Uberdata and run better than you would with the PR3 or P30.

PR3 - 90-91 Teg B16A OBD0

PR3-J01 - 92-93 Teg B16A OBD1. 92-93 Teg has the same motor as the SiR II EG6, the G2 B16A 170 HP. It's just mated to a cable trans.

so which do you have? the PR3 or the PR3-J01?

the maps in the PR3 are different then the P30. the PR3 maps look leaner and a little less ignition timing.
PGMFI.org has some info on the PR3-J01 if you're up for a read.

I had the PR3-J01, when I was SOHC. I have used that PR3-J01 on my B16, with less than good results.

Right now, I have a H22A Skunk2 ECU.

BTW, since I'm OBD1, even if I only say PR3, I'm still taking about the PR3-J01.

like I said the PR3 has less fuel trim in the map than the P30. especially at WOT.

But I have no idea why the PR3-J01 would be called "big VTEC", the map isn't that special IMO.

Best to start running your B16... the P30 or P28 with a P30 map. Then tune it for even better performance.

I think becase VTEC hits louder and maybe harder P30. But like I said, the harder/louder VTEC hits, the weaker your **** actually is.
