Default Non Type-S RSX Turbo Question

My friend has a non type-s RSX which she is looking to boost. The engine in this model is the K20A3 if im not mistaken, which is the same 160hp engine that comes in the 01+ Civic SI. She doesnt have the 9 grand to drop on a Type-S motor swap and turbo kit, but wants to boost her car anyways. my question is, would it be a ton of trouble if she bought a turbo kit for the civic si and used it in the RSX being that its the same engine? would it require much custom work or new parts? tricky placements or anything? please lemme know whatever information u guys might have on this subject. thanx!

actually, there are a good number of turbo kits made for the base model rsx. clubrsx.com has a bajillion threads that will very likely help you (and her) find a turbo kit.

but just for personal feedback, i would recommend the greddy turbo kit. i have heard that the reliability of the turbo kit as a whole is good (however, i think the one fault is the oil lines, not sure), considering that reliability is my key factor to any performance modification.

the full-race kit is (personally) one of the best turbo kits available. the steep price tag might empty a wallet, but reliability and hp numbers will definitely satisfy.

those are two i would first recommend. happy shopping!

To answer your question, no you cant just get a Si turbo kit. The intake manifold is different, and ecu. Some of the piping from the kit is different. But yes they do make kits for the BASE. Tell your friend she doesnt need to swap her motor. The A3 is actually better to boost because of the lower compression than the A2 found in the type s.

And yes, clubrsx.com is your friend

other than that, do your own shopping mang. even local dealers might cut you off a deal.
