Default 89 civic dx, needs some upgrades

i cant bare to let my civic go and get something else. ive been through a lot with it, and it's in decent condition considering i only paid 600 for it. so any suggestions? i have everything stock, and it's the dx model, so let me know! im going to have 2500 to spend in september.

ps. im just learning about cars, and id like to learn as much as possible. i know that everyone here has been in my shoes at one point or another. no one just knows cars. many of you probably learned younger than 19, but it's never too late to start learnng. thanks a lot in advance

that's funny because i was thinking that was the first thing i need to do. i think someone told me that i need to put in mpfi before i put in an intake. unless they told me i needed that to put in a turbo, but i dont see myself being able to afford a turbo, and definitely not with a stock car right now. how much do you think the mpfi swap will cost?

yo man I'm running the same thing. I actually like the d15b2's or d15b since yours is 89 I think thats what they had but none the less. If you wanna keep that engine then getting a 5spd si tranny and a rebuild on your engine will make that thing fly like crazy. Mine was rebuilt two years ago and its faster than my parents 2003 lx. I mean I've heard about doing the dpfi-mpfi swap, but honestly thats gonna take a little knowledge and patience to get done. If you don't wanna do it yourself then yeah its a great idea. I am just learning about my car also. I'd say the best thing to do is take note of all the things that need to be fixed then find out if you want a performance part or a stock part to fix it with. Its best to just buy the performance part the first time instead of buying a cheap fix part. Ok well anyway some ideas for that engine. As already mentioned the DPFI-MPFI. What would also make for some fun on that engine would be slapping a d16y8 or other vtec d16 head on your block and do what they call a mini-me swap. Headers, cat-back exhaust and cold air intake will all be good starters for the engine. Aight well thats about as much as I wanna type right now. Hope that helps some.

that all sounds like a good idea. i didnt know that the different transmissions would perform differently. how much would that cost me though? i mentioned that im only getting 2500 in september, and it seems like rebuilding the engine and putting in a new transmission could be pretty costly

yeah the rebuilding of the engine and the si tranny will cost some cash for sure. Well see the guy I bought the car from had the engine rebuilt I think because it had just had enough so I didn't have to worry about that. The DPFI-MPFI basically just gives the car two more injectors and I think each cylinder has its own as opposed to when it was dpfi and it just had two injectors. The change will really give the car alot better throttle response at the expense of gas mileage and if you aren't experienced with electronics I understand doing all this would be pretty difficult. If you wanna see how to do it go to http://www.fourthgenhatch.net then go to technical and then how to's then click on MPFI wiring and it has a full write up on the swap. Also http://www.rywire.com will make you an mpfi harness from your stock one and an si harness or you can buy the stuff you need from the si harness from them for pretty cheap. Rywire charges 160 for this. The Mini-me thing is pretty cool actually, it gives your engine vtec which from what I understand about it is a pin in a cam lobe that is slightly wilder than the two lobes on the side of it that when vtec is engaged the pin makes the other two cam lobes wilder making the valves open up more for more fuel and faster exhaust exit. I could be wrong on some of this, but ya know I thought I'd explain what I thought I had read about it, because I know alot of people who talk about vtec and don't even know what it is. Anyway if you wanna know anything else I'll try to help. Oh yeah and everyone here on HT always says to search these things so ya know you can do that because there is like a million things that they have talked about on here, many that are just repeat questions which is why they tell ya to search, but anyway I'm going on for too long.
