zc smoking and hesitation in low rpm and when hitting throttle quick
alright any help would be highly aprecciated because im about to put a cruise missle through this damn motor. i recently installed my freshly rebuilt zc into my crx with the hopes of breaking it in and putting my turbo on. none of it has been succesful. i rebuilt my zc with total seal gapless rings for turbo and a highly ported and polished head with a 5 angle valve job. i got it toghether and put it in. started up on the first try with no leaks on the outside just on the inside. it was leaking coolant and oil together through the head. there was a crack between two valve seats on the cam side. i had the head checked and they said no good. so i ordered another head gasket and put my stock head back on. the stock head was for an automatic which for some reason the cams are shorter and the intake cam is different and the distributor. i changed everything over to what came with the motor originally. started it up and more problems again. when i hit the gas quicly it seems to hesitate and drop rpms for a second. when i hit the gas easy it is fine. also the motor sputters in low rpms intermittently. i also while driving it is still smoking but its just burning oil instead now instead of mixing antifreeze and oil together. i then tried torquing the head bolts more thinking maybe my pos snap on torque wrench was out of spec and it still didnt help. i have tried 3 seperate coils and 2 different igniters in the distributor and still no change. i also tried raising and lowering fuel pressure. still nothing. i tried checking ignition timing and that was good. i tried checking cam timing and thats good. also when i pull the vacuum line off of the choke type vacuum operated lever at the throttle cable and then it doesnt hesitate but the motor is reved up because of the vacuum leak. im sorry to make it so long but i have worked on cars for some years and never have i seen so many problems that i get so mad at because i cant fix. so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Please use paragraph breaks when writing a post, it's kind of hard to read one huge paragraph.
I'm still having a similar issue on my ZC with the hesitation, but I've made some pretty good progress so far. A few questions:
Are you getting any ECU codes?
Did you replace the TPS sensor yourself? If it's not installed right and properly adjusted it can lead to a variety of throttle problems.
Can't help you much in the fluid burning department, sorry.

well i had the same intake manifold on the other head that was on there
when i put the stock head back on is when it started doing this hesitation.
when i changed heads i had to use different cams and distributor everything else is the same

Same problem here with the Hesistating.
90 Civic dx, with 91 si pm6 ecu.
Bogs down when u floor it for about 1/2 second. A/F goes to very very lean then jumps to where it should be. Ive just learned to live with it.

ok well those comments arent nessasary but regardless, your jsut getting "zced" as we call it. Zcs are known to have bad ignition. MYboy just put MSD on it and it fixed all the poroblems perfect. Look into upgrading your ignition. And the smoking is probably valve seals gone or your rings both weak on zcs also.
hey i think its distr i took my zc crx to velocity they told me it was my distr but my ecu was putting up a code 4 or something but mine was doing more that studdering i f i had a low rpm for a while it would just die. also with mine i sometimes cant go over 3000 rpms
Thats word... we figured out the knock sensor on the d15. Your brother just stopped by and we found a place for it on the back. Guess what I'll be doing once the motor goes in though, VTECing it. Oh yeah, go get a dist you jerk.
i tried a different dist. didnt work. motor is rebuilt for turbo but i will check valve seals since they havent been done on my other head.
hell yeah a little d15b vtec action. nadageebot.
