tranny grinds in 2nd and 3rd
alright, well I just finished my swap in my car, it was my first
and at high RPM, when I put it into gear in 2nd and 3rd it grinds.
now I've obviously heard of people saying that my tranny grinds, but I never had a faulty tranny before, I've grinded gears before with my stock d, but that was because I was improperly clutching.
anyways, if I drive my car like a normal citizen, it's fine
but above 6000 RPM, it will grind when I put it into 2, and 3rd gear
so.. how fucked am I here ? should I get rid of this tranny right away ?
It has a fresh bottle of Honda MTF in right now
should I ever bother putting in GM friction modified synchromesh ?

try GM SYNCHROMESH FRICTION MODIFIED first and see it wont hurt to try and get the friction modified bottle not the regular one.it come in a bottle the shape of a regular oil bottle come not rounded like the regular synchromesh.
you can try the Synchromesh, but you're only masking the problem.if it does cure the problem now, there's a good chance it will slowly redevelop over time.
if you are reasonably mechanically inclined, and have a Helm manual, you can tear down the tranny and inspect the synchro rings and sleeves.the rings aren't very expensive to replace, and if the other synchro components are still in good shape, you can fix your problem for around $100.
your other option is to sell the tranny for what you can get out of it,then put that towards another potentially damaged tranny.

Try putting the other bottle in first...
Then check your clutch hydraulics before jumping to comclusions.

sounds like a first gen b16 tranny. ussually its the syncros i dont think theres much u can do with fluids and aditives, thats just from my experience. depending on how bad it is u might need a new set of syncros.
ok, well I talked to the guy who sold me the tranny. and he basicly told me to go **** myself.
so is there anything I can do to try to get rid of the grind ? with out opening it.

lol my cable tranny grinded... in 2nd,3rd,5th.... haha then one day i heard a pop, and well it didnt shift after that... i took the tranny down to find that i had cracked it open :D
Check your shift linkage. 2nd and 3rd gear are on different synchros. Are you shifting "quickly" when above 6k? Try shifting a little slower. Do you have a short throw?
