H-Ter's are going to have a new requirement for racers.
From now on you have to come straight home from your race on Sunday and start sorting thru your videos and pix so that there is something to read on Mondays!

Confession:
I was 10s slower than Bota's record....but I was on street tires for first time....and I was slow as hell....and I was rustier than I expected...and I wasn't about to push it during an HPDE.
Went better than I expected after an 8-month hiatus.
From what I've seen the Silver EK was running 1:35s on Saturday. I wasn't there on Sunday.

Willow Race Weekend Report:
A beautifully clear and sunny high desert weekend greeted the throng of small-bore racers and their crews for this latest round of Honda Challenge. There were also some hot babes in attendance that almost caused the unflappable race director John Lindsey some difficulty trying to conduct a serious drivers meeting on Saturday. She was wearing a low cut....anyway, back to the race report.
Saturday, July 9, 2005
There were eight H4 cars and two H1 cars to start the day. One H4 car, driven by yours truly, windowed the block during practice after only a few laps. Sorry guys about the oil slick in turns 8 and 9. Anyway, Edik Stepanyan and his trusty DA Integra qualified on the pole with a 1:36.0 with Steve Ellsworth and his CRX taking outside pole with a 1:36.6 and Rick Hohwart in his EG taking the inside row two starting position. Dennis Caco took the pole in H1 with Paul Bloomberg in second. The H4 race was a battle from the start with Edik and Steve dicin' and slicin' up the competition from the green flag. Unfortunately for Steve, he flatted a left front after three laps and his race was run. Edik stayed comfortably in the lead with Rick taking second. Rookie Sam Rothschild was in third but he ran low on gas and would eventually have to give up third on the last lap to Miguel Escobar. Those would be the finishing positions with Sam getting fourth. In H1, Dennis Caco of Autocannon-SGR racing took the win wire-to-wire followed by Paul Bloomberg from Arizona in second.

Instead of a regular qualifying session, the grid positions would be determined by a qualifying race. Edik Stepanyan claimed the top spot and started on pole. And, once again, Steve Ellsworth would be bridesmaid and Rick Hohwart would start third. The race would begin as a three car duel between Edik, Steve, and Rick with Edik leading. Steve and Edik would swap the lead, but eventually the DA horsepower would win out leaving Steve to stay on Edik's rear bumper for the nearly the entire race. Unfortunately, with about three laps to go, Edik's usually reliable DA belched a big puff of blue smoke in turn five and the resulting oil stream left on the track caused Steve to fly off on the outside of turn five. The smoke was the result of a missing oil plug and Edik didn't realize it until he got all the way back to turn 3 where he spun in his own oil effectively ending his day. Steve recovered in third and kept going and then wound up in second place after Edik's exit. During this lap, Rick graciously accepted the lead and soon afterwards the course was put under a full-course yellow flag. Within another lap, the race was red-flagged due to oil on the track and the finishing positions would be Rick in first, Steve in second, and Sam Rothschild with a fuller fuel tank today in third.
H1
The field would gain a car for today's race with the addition of Bernardo Martinez in his CRX with a special D16 frankenstein motor. In the qualifying race, Dennis would get the lead and Bernardo quickly went from last to second. On lap two, Bernardo would come into the pits due to overheating that seemed to caused by a malfunctioning thermostat. Dennis kept the lead the rest of the way and Paul Bloomberg would end up second.
In the race, Dennis led with Bernardo and his freshly gutted thermostat moving from last to second. On lap two, with his car overheating again, Bernardo would have to call it quits. Paul inherited second and this would be how they finished.

Johnny Mac pretty much said it all. The only missed fact was that I was unable to start Sunday's qualifying race which sent me to the back of the grid for Sunday's points race. I was up to third by turn three though:-)
Celebrity sighting: Bob Bondurant wins a $100 7's only during Sunday's driver's meeting.
Sunday's race was very entertaining. Edik, Steve and I were nose to tail for the first 10 laps or so. Edik seemed to get the best of slower traffic but Steve and I worked well together to keep Edik within striking distance.
Entering five, Edik appeared to have blown his engine and doused the line with oil. Steve, with no place to go, slipped off track. I had enough time to compensate and was able to stay on track and grab the lead. The oil, combined with the fact Edik's stricken car was just off course, brought out the pace car and a couple of laps later the checkered waved with me the fortunate victor.
I'll take it!

Only thing I will add is to correct one part of your story Johnny!
Edo did not break an oil line, it was better and worse!
It was a simply oil plug that came out!
That is why he still had oil pressure, and a strong motor!
I have some pics, but compared to Johnny's they are crap!
Great action this weekend! Can't wait for the next race @ Infineon!

Seriously Bernardo, reusing a head gasket over again once is maybe okay for a D series motor, but to reuse it again a third time? I'd sacrifice not drinking on Fridays just to put that money into a new head gasket fund for your car!!!!
The power of the Pink drink is strong bota
I mean those marine *cough*boat anchor's *cough* err sorry i mean those motors are durable but for goodness sakes the super D needs a new head gasket!

Relentless innovation in head gasket technology
the whole reason for running the "D" is so I can drink on Friday night.

Easy guys, don't run out of stuff to talk about on Friday. I'm sure the Super D will be torn down and inspected to determine where the real problem was. Sure, it could be a blown head gasket. But this could have been caused by overheating due to a bad thermostat. After the qualifying race, the thermostat was checked by placing it in hot water. The thermostat appeared to be at partially stuck at 180 degrees F, which would have limited flow through the radiator. In addition, some deep scuffing on the shaft indicates that the valve possibly wasn't opening properly. Add that up with a 100 degree plus day and a fair amount of engine compression, the cooling system would need to be operating properly to prevent overheating. We'll see.
