Default Dash removal...

Hi guys,

I want to remove the dash in my DX hatch. What is the easiest way? Do I need to remove all of the small screws securing the dash to the metal frame under it, or would it be easier to unbolt the big bolts and remove the metal frame holding the dash? Anybody that has done it might suggest which is the best way?

Thank you,
Charles

there is only one way.
this is how you do it.
start at the sides, open the doors and remove the plastic covers on the outer sides of the dash. remove the 10mm bolts on both sides.
remove the instrument cluster
pop open the plastic cover on the center of the dash right up to the windshiled.
Remove the 10mm bolt inside there.
unscrew the two screws (8mm) on the bottom of the glove box and remove it
you will see on the right side a 10mm bolt similar to the ones on the side of the dash, remove that one screw.
remove the fuse cover panel and remove the same type of screw on that side (10mm)
Remove the little **** inside the air selector, the one over the coin box.
then using a fine flat head screw driver, remove the plastic cover inside the air selector. there are two phillips screws inside there, remove them.
remove the radio console, and radio, unscrew the AC/heater controls, but leave them there, those stay with the car.
remove the 10mm bolt at the base of the center on the dash, near the floor pan.
there is a 10mm ground bolt that is sort of hidden, it is on the right of the dash cluster but directly under it, look for one black wire to come out of it, remove that bolt.
Remove the steering wheel, steering column cover, and turnsignal/headlight switches.
get someone to help you lift the dash about 1 inch, then pull straight out.

it's not hard once you have done it over 10 times

yeah its not that hard...just take your time...if your going to gut your car and not plan to put things back...i was wondering..if you can donate your interior to me?? email me at teamvsual@hotmail.com

Alright, thanks for all this info guys.

Sorry vsual, I am not gutting my car. I am only dying it from ugly blue to clean black.

I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes.

I bought a bunch of stuff from this guy. He bought a scrap 90 si and is selling everything. I got all the seat belts, the carpet, a bunch of clips and some panels, the rear luggage panel thingy, and a bunch of other stuff for 50$ cdn. That's about 35$ us. Now is that cheap or what?

I believe he's still got the door panels, but I think he wants to sell them with the doors + he lives in canada (so do I!). I can still give you his email if you want, but I don't know if it would be worth it.

Nah, in sunny california, that would be too nice! Been there though...it's nice!

Hey, vsual, you're getting a harness from blownhatch? I saw that you have a DX and want to go D16Z6. What other harness are you going to use? I'm asking because I am doing the same thing and I was planning on getting a harness that goes directly from DX to D16Z6. There is someone on this board that makes one for 180 if you send your DX harness. I think it's better than getting 2 conversion harnesses.

Let me know what you're doing.

no no no!! your probably getting ripped off. $180 sounds to ekkk!!i think what they meant is....convert your dx harness to si for $180. yeah converted dx to si harness direct to d16z6 if using si parts. (but you may want to purchase a vtec controller that cost between $150-$300 or create your own device to activate your vtec)dont go for it if being money wise.

what you want to do is convert it yourself and save alot of $$$$ and get a obd1 conversion harness from blown90hatch for the same price or lower. if your planning to use the obd1 components, what i would suggest is start window shopping now for the obd1 components to get some fairly prices. go to your local wrecked yard and look for obd1 injector clips, distributor, injectors, p28 ecu and grab a few pins for the ecu that your going to add to convert it to si.

i already have my d16z6 on my car. but i'm acutally just running as an si (no vtec). im using pm6 ecu,obd0 injectors with resistor box.

i dont have my vtec running yet ..this performance shop wants to charge me $350 for a vtec controller. i said to myself...wtf?? so i went the other way around and thought of using the original obd1 components that i got when i bought the motor and investing a obd1 conversion harness from blown90hatch.

The conversion harness blownhatch is making is only the adapter at the ecu I believe, is that right? What I am doing is putting the whole D16Z6 engine in my 91 hatch. I'll keep everything, intake, headers, distributor, clutch, and the P28 ECU. This guy I know is making copies of place racing's conversion harnesses. Straight from DX to D16Z6. It contains both the ecu adaptor 0BD0 2 Obd1 and the engine adaptor harness. Everything is plug and play after that.

I could get a harness from blownhatch, but I am still unsure of what it consists of what what I will have to do after that.
