Default headers - yay or nay?

Are headers really worth the money? Seems like someone told me that the stock mani on my 96 EX isnt that restrictive and so headers would be a waste of money. I'm mainly going for a better sound, so im gonna get an EVO2 exhaust with an aem short ram intake and im thinking that headers might improve the tone, not to mention the horsepower. suggestions?

There will likely be very little noticeable power increases from a header, if any at all. I wouldn't recommend a header unless you are going n2o or have money to burn.
The intake and exhaust you mentioned should give your car a decent sound!

with a short ram, cat back, and header, youd most likely see ballpark 8-10hp i think.

that's pretty much all im gonna do as far as performance to my stock engine is I/H/E. I've done alot of exterior work to it and since it is slow anyways, i just want a small hint of power but a really good tone/sound to go along with the appearance. So, id like to get the headers b/c of the performance, but if its not gonna help the sound of the exhaust, i may wait on it for a while. any more suggestions?

if you can pick yourself up a slightly used header, you can get a good deal on it. I just picked up a SS DC header a month ago for $160 shipped. so if you can get a good deal on one, do it up.

well is a certain brand gonna be better than another? i was thinking Greddy stainless to complement the EVO2 exhuast i wanna get but i've heard DC sports is just as good. Also, is stainless worth the extra dough? i live in Louisiana and im pretty sure i wont have any harsh weather like snow and **** to rust the piping? what about one off of ebay?

since you have a 5th gen I'd say get the Greddy header, but the decision is on you. Having a 6th gen we are limited to DC, OBX, Megans, and some other companies of lesser quality.

you might not have snow and all that to rust it, but the humidity will also do it just as much, cuz its humid all night long...(when i was down there)

and if you want to compliment the sound headers will make it better

greddy would probably cost a lot, i got my Megan Racing headers for $151.25 shipped

thats a good deal......sromagazine.com

if you are only doing i/h/e with your stock engine its not worth it, and dc's are crap btw, unless you are running a supercharger or you do a swap to like an h22 where performance headers are more available, stick with the i/e only or go turbo

well are megan racing headers good? ive never heard of them. and will they resist corrosion like stainless headers or would it just be worth the money to get the stainless? And what about Arospeed? i found new chrome headers by arospeed for $199. any thoughts?

im suprised nobody corrected on the headerS earlier.

if your looking for sound, i'd just go w/ an intake and a muffler. i mean, changing the header isnt gonna make much diff at all and isnt worth the money unless you just wanna be able to say you have an upgraded header.

ive put a intake on my car and i'm lovin the sound..got around 18-20 mpg out of my 96 when i usually get 30+ love the sound!!!

im gettin about 35 mpg right now with my stock motor. So you're telling me that when i put an intake on my car, im gonna be getting around 20 mpg? cause if that's the case, i might not do it. gas is just too high right now. i know once i put on all the aftermarket exhaust and intake, my mpg will drop but i didnt think it would drop from 35mpg to much lower than say 28 or 29.

intake system brings up your mpg by taking off a lot of load of your system.Only time you can really hear it is when your gunning it and your vtec cams are in use...also means more gas and higher rpms = low mpg

i doubt the MSD would do you much good unless you re ddi your entire ignition system along with fuel and maybe boosted the motor

from what ive always know...Arospeed is kinda "el cheapo" but some say they make good stuff
