Default 95 cx radiator not enough for d16z6?

i'm at my witts end here my civic starts to overheat whenever i turn the a/c on, also whenever i'm on the freeway for very long on the way home from work. i can get it to cool down by switching the temp to hot and turning the fan on but damn that gets hot inside the car. i've done everything eccept the leakdown test and replacing the radiator. new thermostat, timing belt and water pump, both fans come on like they're supposed to, and i flushed the radiator this weekend with some of that prestone flush stuff. when i drained the radiator there was no sign of oil in the coolant. looks like it's finally time to bring it to the shop. is the cx radiator too small? they all look about the same to me. HELP!!!!

get a radiator for a 94 del sol vtec, 2 core aluminum. a single core half radiator barely cuts it and when they start to get old they are bad news.

I've been wondering what is meant btn 1 row and 2row? Is that the same as 1=half 2=full radiator?

your CX radiator id good enough for the D16z6 man

Dual core rad. is best for DOHC motor

no, 2 core means it has 2 cores or rows. When you look on the inside you will see 2 passages instead of one and they are thicker. Half radiator and full radiator is self explanitory.

the 1 core radiators barely cut it and work well, but I have tried diagnosing many cooling problems come to find it was the radiator, even though it looked fine.

2 core aluminum came in del sol b16s. the dx / cx had the 1 row and the si has the 2 row.

Yea... I havent drove my 95 DX for MONTHS because of this. Im getting it up and running TODAY. It was overheating without a good reason. My crappy 1 core radiator was caked with white crap. I think it was minerals in water. you should use destilled water or deoinized water with antifreeze in your car. also, honda will try to sell you a 1 ply radiator for 355 bucks. HAHAH no thanks. eBay i got a koyo 2 ply brand new from "radiatordoctor" 105 with shipping..... and some new hoses and thermostat for safe measure and since i was draining my coolant anyways.

Oh snap you from eden prarie.. i used to work at sub-CHEV and mobil across street...

The radiators are not the same between the two models. You could have easily found this out yourself by looking up the part/refrence numbers at hondaautomotiveparts.com. I would think your car shouldn't have any problem cooling a relativly small stock motor like the D16, but the AC does pose a significant load on the motor.

I was going to say it was probably a bad condensor fan motor. But since the EG's use a completely separate radiator & fan for the AC system, that probably isn't your problem...

You could always buy this unit (even works with autos). The seller has a 100% feedback and over 4000 rating...

your proly right but my radiator has 230,xxx and it's a single core unit so who knows. that radiator on ebay looks pretty sweet. aluminum too. a little worried about it being a single core but the price sur is right. 53.00 shipped!! nice.

It doesn't just do it when the A/C is on. it starts to get warm when i'm driving anywere for a pereod of time. i can control it by adjusting the temp controls to hot and it'll cool right down. but that makes it ultra hot inside the car. the heat combined with the super humidity around here=suck. it's like the cooling system cant keep up.

The fact that that radiator is only a single core, doesn't really make a difference. The reason the larger radiators cool better is because of more fin surface area, and a larger coolant capacity. That AL radiator holds more fluid than the del sol "dual core" because their is a space between the two cores where no fluid is stored. Thats the one I'm planning on purchasing if and when I buy my swap. For under $50 shipped, you cant go wrong.

FYI: An aluminum core doesn't necissarly cool better than a copper brass unit. The AL end takes of a race radiator do cool better, but AL fins don't. Thats why race radiators are so thick. The main advantages of a stock style AL radiator (with plastic end tanks) is that it won't corrode like copper/brass, and release nasty rust into your water pump...

Make sure the bleeder valve is open when you fill it. You want a clean ****, no bubbles, then torque it down and run the car with the cap off for a while filling it as needed. Make sure you do this or you will have air in there and it will overheat all the time. Just a heads up

the reason i suspect the radiator is that the car was doing the same thing last year with the old motor.

i bought it as well, mine gets here thursday... i'll let you know how it works. i figured it should be decent with the sellers feedback and i know someone who has it and they said the quality is just as good as the oem replacements you buy at autozone, advanced auto, napa, etc.
