do all engine swaps move u up to street mod class. i was meaning if i bought a eg vx hatch and put a stock eg si engine in the vx would that put me in street mod, or could i say it is a si and have a pretty light weight car with more power?

yes.... unless this is a "street prepared" class and the two cars are listed on the SAME LINE in the rulebook...

 

92-95 Civic Vtec is listed on the same line for DSP. So the VX being vtec technically the swap is legal in DSP.

If you put everything that was on the Si, on the VX it would be legal, that includes the factory sunroog all suspension compenents, all interior peices, any thing that the SI has that the VX doesn't you would have to swap with the engine. Then you would be leagal for stock... as long as they are the same year.

In this case control is both driver and suspension. Work on the driver a lot, its the hardest thing to get working. Power isn't a big factor in autox, getting your car to handle and transition through the corners is key.

For instance: my Accord is rated at 145 hp weights 3200 lbs with me in it. Compare that to a Mini Cooper which is class winner in my region, 115 hp weight 2400 lbs. Mini has a much shorter wheel base and much better suspension along with lighter weight.

Personally I would not worry about swaps or anything yet. Class your car where it fits and spend time working on your driving. Most events I fight for last place or second to last place in class. I am still trying to learn the car and how to control it. A better driver would go 3 seconds faster quite easily.

so for me starting would it be better for me to get a vx (lighter and less power)or si(heavier and more power) .or do u guys think i should just get what ever i can and race it.

Anything will kill you right now because you are a noobie. Going in thinking you can beat the guy with the beat up Si on race tires will make you really embarassed. Spend money on three things: entry fees, gas to get there, and food/water. Actually you can scratch the latter, buy a cooler and bring your own food as food at the venues are always very pricey.

I refuse to buy any go fast or better handle parts until next year. Right now all the $$$ is going into event costs, gas money and food (unless I bring my cooler... but then again I still pay for the food).

There's no updating or backdating for stock class

Updating/backdating refers to changing a car to a different model year. For instance you have a 1990 Civic and you want to go to 1989 Civic you have to make all the changes relevant to that year.

 

I'd recommend downloading the *official rules* off the SCCA site instead of looking at Mouton's. Mouton's is not official and typically out of date. There's a link to the SCCA rules in my sig...
