Increasing my Gas Mileage
i have an 02 EX coupe AT and i heard that getting a CAI and new HEaders and Exaust system would increase my gas mileage
anything else i could do to increase it?
would be cool if i could push 45-50 Highway mpg

I would say lighten up your fly-wheel, but that would only work on a manual tran. Perhaps you should get a manual first......
lighter rims?
take out the back seat?

i got about 41mpg highway on a trip (using A/C the whole time)
i wouldn't recommend I/H/E mods for fuel economy. waste of money, and messes up your power band. you're better off driving conservatively (letting the car shift at 3k rpms or so) if you want, do some weight reduction (CF hood, spare tire, etc.)

heres a few easy ways to increace gas mileage
remove all non neccesarry parts from the car: pare, radio, back seats, dashboard door pannels, brakes, light bulbs, passenger seat, paint.
then replace current compnets with lighter ones: catrbon fiber trunk, carbon fiber hood, lexan windows, lighter rims, replace all other body pannels with ultra-light paper-mache replicas of the efifel tower.
come back to reality:
you can get well over 30 mpg in the 01 civic, but if youre looking to hit well over 40, buy a crx, and strip it, or a hybrid. buying expensive aftermarket preformance accessories are fun, and have their bennefits, but not really for fuel mileage.

unrestricts air flow, which increases mileage
running I/H/E on a SOHC civic is a waste of money if you're looking for power
but just an intake never hurt anyone if you're just looking for better mileage

With these mods you do supposedly get better gas milage.
Slightly better gas mileage and a tad more power were the reasons I got a SRI for my car. I prob only gained like 3hp from it (which I was expecting it to not do much) but the tempation to step on it to listen to the intake has probably if anything worsened my gas mileage.
Keep in mind that chances are all of these mods will make you loose some low end torque (like we have that anyways
) and you will def not see 50mpg w/ I/H/E anyways. If anything a slight increase in gas mileage and an increased desire to step on it.
edit: woops didnt see that this was from the begining of the month.... sorry

i have intake and on my 02 lx auto, i went from getting aout 410 miles per tank to over 450 if i drive easy. ive calculated on a HW trip to get about 36MPG, but messing around with the car i was able to get as low as 17MPG. then again by messing around im talking about hitt dirt-parking lots, lol
OK, think about the economics of buying I/H/E to save gas $. Here is an example:
Gas = $2/gallon,
I/H/E = $1500,
You drive 15,000 miles per year,
Currently w/o mods 30 mpg, with I/H/E 40 mpg.
15,000 miles/30 mpg= 500 gallons x $2 = $1000 in gas per year
15,000 miles/40 mpg = 375 gallons x $2 = $750 in gas per year
You've now spent $1500 to save $250. At this rate it will take you 6 years to breakeven.
Obviously the more you drive, the better your rate of return, but still, not such a good idea for saving $.
