Default edm vti Tachometer problems

About a month or so ago i installed a edm vti civic guage cluster(The one that redlines at 8k and goes to 155mph).

Problem is that about a third of the time it displays the wrong rpm. for instance when im going 70 mph the tach should be reading somewhere around 4,000 rpm. When the tach is not working correctly it will read about 4,750 at 70 mph, and when the engine is idleing it will sit right on the pin or right above it.

The tach is not jumping around like what happens when you have a bad ignitor( i know cause ive had the problem alot when i was obd0). Also when it is reading the wrong rpm it is consistently wrong, what i mean by this is that it will always read 4,750 at 70 mph when its messing up.

needless to say im pretty pissed off because i payed a pretty penny for this cluster and i would like it to work correctly. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could your wire not be shielded allowing interference to filter in? Just a thought....

ok well i just put the old Si cluster back in and everything works fine. So i guess the problem has to be the cluster.

Is there anywhere i could send it to get recalibrated or something?

Did you ever take the shield off the cluster? Cause if you touch the needle it'll throw it off as well. I've done that, and all i did was leave the shield off, go drive, and move the needle 'til it's right. It worked for mine, not a guarantee it'll work with yours. Just a thought!

nah i never took the shield off. the thing i cant figure out is why it worked correctly at first then started showing the wrong rpm. for the last week or so it showed the wrong rpm all the time.
