On Track with a RARE Ferrari
I went out to the track last Thursday for about 5 hours and had a great time, but it was HOT. I had the track mostly to myself except for a couple vintage race cars and some open wheel guys. One of the vintage cars was an old Jag that was pretty sweet, but the other was an incredible Ferrari. The rich guy that owned it and the Jag was pretty much a dick and wouldn't talk much to me. Apparently only 3 of these in the world (I can't remember the Ferrari number designation). Made to race in the Carrera Panamericana in Mexico and driven by none other than Ascari!
I bet none of you guys will ever have the chance to pass one of these on track (twice

owner - "sigh, yes.."
random idiot - "no it's not.. it's missing the Type Mexico stickers... and the ground wire to the valve cover is in the wrong place"
frankly, i'd be an *** also if i owned that ****.

The conversation I was trying to have with him was not so juvenile as your tongue-in-cheek example. No excuse for being an *** in my opinion no matter where or when....

A few weeks ago, I instructed at the Ferrari Club of America's drivers school at Indianapolis Raceway Park, which was part of their national gathering that also included spectating at the Formula Zero non-race at IMS. There were about thirty cars, all going onto the track at IRP. In addition to the more common 308/328/348/F355/360 Modena/F430, there were a couple of 550 Maranellos, a 250GTO, and two different models of Superamerica. One or two of the cars were worth into seven figures. My students drove a 550M and a Boxer (BB512i). And drove them well. The fellow in the other 550M was, I would guess, in his late seventies, and walked with a cane - but when he took his car out on the track, he drove it like a bat out of hell.
