Default Building a good sounding exhaust

Hello, i was wondering if Anybody could help me out with the design of my new exhaust. What i would like is a nice exhaust tone that doesn't sound like a pos car running open headers. So are there any tips anybody has to making this happen? Im planing on using 2.5 or 3 in tubing on a 1.8l turbocharged engine

-Thanks

My advice, which may go against the status quo:

1) Use a catalytic converter.

2) Use a chambered muffler instead of a "straight-through". Straight-through mufflers might sound good sometimes but they always sound like crap at one time or another.

Hmm a chambered mufflers do tend to sound better on most cars. This is tough since i already have a nice used N1 sitting nect to me.

I hate to say it, but i'd rather put a resonator in instead of a cat.

I used a 26" resonator instead of a cat. Also running a cheapo chambered turbo muffler. This is a d15 w/ T3. Sounds almost as quiet as stock with a very subtle lower tone to it, most people don't even notice it.

Where did you put the resonator? It sounds like you put it where the cat used to be, but isn't that going to get it a little hotter?
