it slides off like you think it does, after you take the screw out. feel the base of the rotor until you feel the allen screw. find the right size allen wrench and take it out.
after you feel the screw, if you can't fit an allen wrench in there, you're going to have to rotate your engine somehow so you can access the screw. there's multiple ways to do this. here's an easy way:
put your car in 1st. take the e-brake off. push your car so the engine will turn a bit, enough to access the screw. then it's cake.

Please note also that the screw can be a Phillips too. Please be careful not to strip this screw! If you are having trouble breaking it free use some PB Blaster and let it sit for a few minutes. In order to easily remove it, you will want the "screw" facing the rear of the car. (i.e. towards the windshield) Simply turn the car over for 1/10 of second get out check to see if the screw is facing rear if not rinse and repeat.
Yes, on many cars, it's a phillips screw head, not an allen. If you can't see it on the top or front, go to your driver side wheel well like 94GeeSR said and use the 19mm crank pulley bolt to rotate the cams until the screw is facing slightly up and towards the rear of the car, that is the only way you can reach it usually and have any leverage to get the screw out without stripping it. I have used a hand impact driver with great success to get this screw out.
