Default Intake Problem Solved :)

UPDATE: Problem SOLVED. Used hairdryer to heat up filter opening + elbow grease. Thanks 94DOHCGsr!

I read several posts about the DIY drop-in K&N filter setup and gave it a try.... The problem is that the RU-2820 filter won't fit up to the stock intake elbow on MY car since the opening on that is larger (about 3.25 inches external diameter) compared to the K&N filter's which is 3 inches (internal diameter). It is very frustrating after getting this far... Should I hack away at the K&N opening to make it bigger? Did yours fit right up? I have a 1994 Integra LS and all of the components were the same as when I got the car from the dealer in 94. I can't see Honda changing the specs on something like that.

Here are the directions I followed at BretQs site:

Here are pictures from BretQs 1994 GS-R site:

Here are pics from PatrickGSR94:

This is exactly what I am trying to do using the same filter the RU-2820. It doesn't make sense that the intake arm on a GS-R would be smaller (3 inches) than my LS (3.25 inches)... Here is a pic of the intake elbow. The diameter of that top opening on mine is 3.25 inches and because of that, the filter won't fit over it.

as long as the piping meets up to the end of the filter you should be fine....it doesnt have to seal inside the airbox

get a hair dryer and some vaseline. heat up the filter and apply some lube to it. Mine still needed some elbow grease but just keep at it. It will go eventually. NEVER give up. gl

BTW that is a pretty cool setup. Looks like the DSM filter. Good Luck

94DOHCGsr: Thanks for the advice... I was surprised how well that hair dryer worked
