info on all motor
I was wanting to build an all motor mini me. i was just wondering if it is really worth it or should i buy a turbo kit. I just love a N/a car so give me some feedback. If i do it i want to make the car tuned for motocrossing. I think NA is the way to go.

im me and we'll meet up
im me and we'll meet up
well the fastest street driven car ive seen that was a sohc was a d16z6 with zc pistons, zex59300 cam, bunch of bolts and what not and head work i think that went 13.3@101, my n/a sohc went 14.1@96 that was stock block with just headwork and a **** *** header. could have been in the 13's.....but i say if you want 12's get a dohc if your only looking for 13's it can be done with the sohc.

Now ive heard mixed things about the zex cams. the local performance shop says their crap. On the other hand, some freinds say they're a pretty good cam. The ls swap thing sounds good stump. did the engine smoke or anything before. And thats another thing would an ls swap be good or just drop in a zc, or mini me.
HIT ME BACK. Stump I'll Holla at ya, what the **** you been up to!!!!!!!!!!!!<U></U>

If you want to stay D-Series, you have options. The most cost effective way is to forced induction. For less than $1000, you can peice together a turbo kit that will get you more bang for the buck than any other setup, usually.
If you want to stay with the D-Series, and stay all-motor, the biggest thing to focus on is going to be weight reduction. You won't be able to squeeze much out of a D16, without forced induction or spray. So, you're going to need a light car, definitely.
What D-Series will you be running? y8? z6? Mini-me? You can swap around pistons from other D motors to get a bump in compression.. are the a6 pistons the ones that give you a very high comp? That would help. You're going to have to spend and get a set of quality bolt ons. Also, Zex cams are great. I would definitely recommend their cams and valvetrain components to anyone. Gude makes some really nice head packages, as well.
You have lots of options with your tranny, as well. Mixing Final Drives between trannies can get you some pretty decent gearing, for a D series.
All in all, if you want to be fast with a SOHC, you will need to have a -VERY- light car, or go forced induction.

Better between which? Z6 and y8? I'd prefer the z6. I'd pick up whatever you can get ahold of for cheap, though.

wouldnt mind FI but its like whatevers to me lol</TD></TR></TABLE>
Well, weight reduction is free!
The best mod I've ever done, personally, on a SOHC was to swap from a DX to an EX tranny. The long geared DX/HX/VX/HF/Whatever trannies are terrible!
A SOHC can be fun to drive, easily.. just don't expect to go fast and be all-motor, unless you're incredibly rich.

no the motor dont smoke at all it is actually still in the car if you want to take it out to see how strong the motor still is just give me a call sometime
I really don't want to be super-fast. i just want the car to be damn fun to drive. My Friend had a mini me in a hatch and that thing was really quick. don't know any track times but i think it seemed a lot faster than what it was. the ls swap sounds nice they seem to make a lot more parts fo the dohc than the single slammers.I know they don't make a lot of stuff for the zc though. I'll get a hold of ya stump and let you know something. would the ls swap be a good choice.i heard the dual cam is better but is that necessarily true?

i got an 88HF, weight reduction
i needa invest in an si tranny or something, i can go to like 50 on first gear hahah..
IYO, is it a wise decision to get a sohc and learn how to build then move on to dohc or is it a waste of time to go with sohc and should just straight up save up for a dohc
kinda wanna get into building

Well, I've got an LS in my EF Hatch. Its a great motor to work with, especially if you want to go boost down the road. I prefer the LS motor because they're cheap as hell, and torquier than a B16. A first-gen B16 is also a good choice. It doesn't impress me that much though until you hit VTEC. Also, the B16 tranny is alot better than the LS tranny. Then again, you can throw that B16 tranny on the LS, too... Either way, my LS Definitely feels way better than my SOHC, but I had a y7/y8 mini-me with bolt ons in my last car, nothing special.
As far as DOHC motors go, they make more power stock for stock, and have more potential. The best reason to stay SOHC is to boost. For cheap.
Like I said earlier, I went with an LS swap... well, a buddy of mine has a '98 Civic coupe, and he probably spent just as much as I did (around $1000) piecing together a turbo kit for his D16y8. He is now running low 14s.

****, SOHC motors are so cheap... If you want to go building your SOHC, go for it. Its definitely a learning process, and if you mess up, which would you rather mess up? A $1000+ B-Series motor, or a $150 D16? Haha, the choice is obvious to me
If you're wanting to learn, go for it. Start mixing and matching SOHC parts and see what you can build. If you want to mini-me the D15, or pick up a z6 or y8 to play with, go for it!

cool i might just stick with the single. that's not for certain. I've been looking at parts are all the d series the same bore. Another question when i bought my rex three years ago it had a blown head gasket. i had all the normal headwork done i.e.Cleaned, resurfaced, so on and so forth. Well i made the call to the local dealership fo the gaskets. the service manager told me that if i just replaced the gaskets it would increase compression and blow the rings. At first i thought that this ****** was crazy. but then i noticed what seemed to be a slight drop in power. could this happened? What should i replace on this build? it is my first time. so ill need some coaching. I know with the z6 head i can use most of the same stuff and i would just have to wire vtech. True or false, i don't know.

Sweet, I just noticed you're from TN, so am I.
I glanced through you're post, but I'm at work so I can't make a long response right now, I need to get off the net before I get in trouble
Hit me up on AIM sometime, SN is Syzle, we can talk cars.
