Default running a bit warm, need some help

well im afraid it might be the headgasket but i wanna cover everything else first. here's a list of what ive done so far.

exhaust wrap
new thermostat from honda
newer rad from an automatic
just changed the coolant. to about a 65/70-35/30 (c/w) mix
fan runs on a switch (but doesnt help kuz its blowing the heet on the rad.
i've got the back of the hood proped up for better air circulation.
i just removed the front plate for now to see if it helps the air flow to the rad but it didnt work.
fairly new waterpump, changed about 1-1 1/2 years ago. and it doesnt squeel or anything.

any other ideas before i have to cough up the money for a headgasket.
yes i did do a search to find out what leads to over heating but other than the head gasket, i think i've covered everything.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have pretty much covered everything so I would look at the headgasket next. How hot is it running?

i dont know the exact temperature but on the gauge it reads up to half.
ive got a Si cluster if that helps, since the cx,dx temp gauges are bigger.

Hmmm...i read at about 1/3 when I am fully warm on my Si cluster. Have you had overheating problems where the gage will go all the way up?

not since the new thermostat has been put in
but before that if i got stuck in traffic it pull all the way into the red.

i dnt kno if the list of mods would matter but ive got

i/h/e/fpr

i think ive read somewhere that too low of fuel pressure can cause the car to overheat, any truth to that?

I dunno but running the car too lean or too rich will cause it to run hot. A too lean condition will also cause detonation which will destroy the engine if it is run too long like that. However, I don't think this is the case with you. What is your fuel pressure and what engine are you running? jdm d15b??

jdm d15b
chipped pr4 ecu.
the guy who chipped it made it run too rich, 42psi (at idle). you could smell all the unused fuel.
so i bought the fpr and i was told to drop it down to 30psi (at idle). ive been trying to get my hands on a a/f guage so i could get a rough idea but so far no such luck

Is that Honda coolant? I have always heard it is better to use Honda coolant, but I have no idea if it would help for overheating, I always thought it was better for corrosion issues. I assume if you are diluting it is not Honda.

no its not honda coolant, but if enough people back your story up it might sway me into going into the dealer to buy some.

if its the headgasket, what would be the proper one to use for "stock" and what would be a good one to bump up the compression a bit.

ok, since i dont have a digital camera, i drew everyone a picture of my temp gauge.
now it may not be running warm but i dont remember it being this high.

even tho ive had the Si cluster for almost a year now, i'm still not completely use to the gauge diference(s) compared to the cx/dx gauges...

hopefully my MAD pAinT skiLlz will help

That is about where my gage is when my b16a warms up fully.

so would this still be safe to run, or do you think its still a bit high for a small D.
its cooled down quite a bit under the hood since the wrap was done last night.
fan actually blows cooler air at the rad.

i just dont wanna have to go thru the hassle of changing the head gasket.

Take it out and run it around. Sit in traffic. If it doesn't overheat or the temp doesn't go up significantly I would say it is ok.

well it sounds like you got the 2 wires on the fan backwards, the fan should be blowing towards the engine not towards the front of the car or radiator. but the temp guage still looks normal thats where my d16z6 in my crx was.

yeah, most cars have it set up where the temp gauge should be in the middleat perfect operating temp. but our civic gauges aren't very accurate. it's fine as long as it doesn't go up a lot.

If that is over heating I am fucked. Thats where mine has been. If it goes above half, that is when you should start worrying.

Mine used to be at 1/4 of the way up before i got my swap. Then afterwards its always more than 1/3 of the way up, even with a huge fluidyne.

well, ive come down to the conclusion that it is the headgasket. i switched the fan back around, got stuck in a bit of traffic, over heated. i finally got around to checking the thermostat, and it still works... so, question is, which headgasket can i use to make a bit more power, haha. i kno the z6 would be the stock replacement. just want to kno my other options, and still have the clearance.

If it is the head gasket, the easiest way to tell would be to take a look at your radiator fluid. If it is a choc. milk color, that is the problem. but looking at the pic you drew, your temp is ok. you might just want to have your cooling system flushed. it might be clogged somewhere. just my 2 cents though. good luck.
