Default Met a nice Sheriff in WA

So me and my friend went out to go get some food today. We left his house in the country in Gig Harbor, me on my F4i and him on his RC51. So we start heading up this hill that's a 40mph zone, and it's just this long stretch of uninterrupted road with a few curves in it. My friend takes off up the hill, and i stayed about 60 feet behind him, and we get to the top of the hill and he kinda twists back and makes a hand gesture to ask if i want to turn down Lombard St. or not and then he gets on the brakes? I look in my mirror and see cop lights, so now we're bothing stopping really fast. We weren't speeding at the moment, but i'm sure we were speeding up the hill. We turn off our bikes, take off our helmets and sit there, and the officer walks up and says "these your bikes guys?"
"yes sir"
"i just need to see your licenses, i'm not giving out any tickets today so don't worry. I'm just checking to see if you guys are legal"
so he takes our licenses back to his car, then comes back and asks us the speed limit, and we said 40mph, and he insisted it's 35 (it's posted 40, but hey, we're not arguing with him). So he told us we had fast bikes, but to know when to go fast and let us go.

Only nice Gig Harbor cop i've ever met. Pretty nice warning for us, i appreciated it.

Did you check for chocolate stains? Glad to hear you made it unscathed with the fuzz.

gig harbor is kinda like the boonies. cops out there usually have nothing else better to do, but i'd say you two got off lucky.

Right on man! Trust me having **** doesn't do any good, crying does even less. I think it's bullshit that police try to create this "I'm only here to help," image, when clearly they aren't there to help. Medics are there to help. Firemen are there to help. Police officers are there to intimidate and rat people out. The worst a cop could do is arrest you. Always remember that. **** the police. I mean really, how many people do you see bitching about medics/firemen?

Sorry for the random vent there.

Most of the city cops that have pulled me over are usually really nice, though I've never met any from Gig Harbor. Most of the time, if anyone's rude to me, it's Staters, I think I've met one nice one. Though from what I've heard the State Trooper Institution is really military so that doesn't really suprise me.

The State Police are held to a different standard than other law enforcement agencies for the most part. Their training is more extensive, and their idealogy is also vastly different from that of the Sheriff's Department, or the local PD.

You're much less likely to get away with a warning from a State Tropper than a Sheriff. Although I do not seem to have a problem with either, as I respect them when pulled over.

Understandable. I'm just big on politeness and you can be strict and be polite at the same time. I just don't like being disrespected especially considering my respect and politeness for police officers in general.

Don't take it personally. State Police have no 'back up' within a significant range, unlike your local Police Department, which could have help there in around two or three minutes. They're trained to treat everybody as a threat as it is a way to preserve their life.

Do not, however, think that attitude plays no role in whether or not you get a ticket. The vast majority of cops will take two things into consideration, one of them being your atittude, the other being the severity of the infraction. Naturally you won't get a warning or a fix-it-ticket for murder..

I work for the Sheriff's Department, and I'm glad to see the original poster had a good experience with them, it's what we're out to do .
