1997 Dx engine reliability
How does everyone feel about these engines/trannies? Mine is 100k and I wonder how reliable it is, and how safe it is to rev the thing to 6000. Can anyone shed some light on this?
You're not going to go anywhere if you rev to 6,000 RPM. It's still going to be slow as molasses. Drive it as it was meant to be driven, a slow grocery-getter.
BTW, if proper maintenance is maintained, a Honda can last past 300K.

The motor is very reliable. I drove this **** out of mine, because I knew a swap was coming. I literally redlined the car almost every day. I only changed the oil every 5k miles, if that. I had to replace the clutch once, and I didn't change the timing belt until 110,000 miles.
Still, it always idled smooth and ran fine.
My buddy has over 250k miles on his DX Civic, and it still runs like a champ. Idles very quietly, and is very smooth.

Since y7 dx models don't come with a tac, this is a good rule of thumb: 90mph in 3rd 114 mph in 4th. This should put you over 7000rpms and it will handle it, only problem is you'll still be slow.
