Default Tac issue

Hey guys i got my 95 v6 accord ex last night and i love it. The only issue i have seen so far is that the tac dosent work. It dosent read anything and then it will jump alittle bit and then its back to nothing. Parked on an even surface seems to help but i dont know if thats tried and true yet. Any ideas of what i should look at and where?

Thanks
Sully

I had the same problem with my '94 EX. After much searching through wiring diagrams, and probing around with an overly expensive multimeter (thank you USAF , I found out that the actual tach was the culprit. So I replaced that, along with the speedo that stopped working nearly 5000 miles prior. Apparently(sp?), this was a problem that quite a few 5th gen accords had. Hope this helps.

My speedo is working fine right now. The only other thing on the cluster thats not working right is the gas level never goes all the way even if it full. How much was it to get a new one put in. How much work is involded and is it something i can do myself? I am DIY guy whenever i can so any help would be great

I think it only took about $125 w/shipping to get the new tach. I do everything to my car myself, so I tore off the required dash pieces to get to the cluster. The cluster itself takes a little while to get to, but once you get it out it's easy to open up and get to the tach inside. If I remember correctly, all I had to do was take the green flex circuit off the back and unscrew the tach, screw the new one in, and put everything back together. Took me about 2 hours total, since I also installed some indiglo gauge faces while the cluster was open.

would it be cheaper and/or easier to just buy an entire new cluster?

i would think so, unless you really want your mileage to match up though, which it probably wont with a replacement cluster...
