Default d15b2 block, d16a6 head

wondering which head gasket to order. There are three oem part numbers on hondaautomotiveparts.com ( 83210, 83211, 83212 ).

Also are there any issues with swapping this head. I heard there are sometimes timing issues. Need to order the gasket today so I was just curious.

Also with the timing belt, do I need one for a d16a6 or for the d15b2? any water pump differences?

I remember reading that the B2 head is the exact same as the A6 head, just that the A6 has a more agressive camshaft. Not sure about the cam gear differences.

The bore is the same on both D-series blocks. So the headgasket shouldn't matter. Those different part numbers could be the thickness of the headgasket.

Timing Belt - see if they are the same part numbers, if not, I think you get the timing belt with the head. Not sure about that.

Water pump - stick with the b2 because you will be using the b2 block. It is probably the same as the A6 waterpump anyway, but just stick with the b2 waterpump.

If anything, this was used as a bump.

im gonna have to agree, I am almost positive that the a6 and the b2 head area almos the same, besides, the cam. I honestly wouldn't dump money into buying this head. When you could just go out, and possibly get a y8 or z6 head for even cheaper. Parts are common for the a6, but why the a6?? I had to ask.

the a6 head because I have it in front of me, it's recently been rebuilt, and my b2 head has a crack lol. Its for my $400 beater than gets 40+ mpg. I have my hatch to build up, this is on my 88 4dr

I raced a Stock B16 in Fully Gutted EF Hatch w. 6pt. cage. with my Ef Hatch fully gutted with the A6 only mods on the a6 were a k&n drop in filter and my buddyclub spec II exhaust. Both on M/T's. he ran 10.143 and I a 9.952. not too much faster but for a stock single cam thats not bad.!! The tranny is definatley geared good! But thats just my .02

When i put the a6 head on my b1 everything was tha same. Jus got a new gasket for a 1.6 single, and they fit for most d-series motors(1.5 and 1.6 no- vtec). water pump was the b1 and there was no issue with the swap. Jus put on a gasket for the a6 head, keep ur water pump and timing belt u should be fine

The A6 is actually the best flowing single cam head there is. It can outflow a y8 and z6 anyday. fully ported y8 might be about the same as an a6. So he definatly made the right choice.

as for the questions, Timing belt goes with the head so an a6 timing belt. Keep the pumps from the b2 block.
Headgasket- I always heard go with the head. For example Ls/Vtec you use a b16/type r headgasket not the LS one even though its an ls block.

so wait, your telling me that with a stock a6 u ran a 9 in the quarter? is it just me or does this just not sounds absolutely rediculous. Where did u read that the a6 is better flowing than the y8 or a6??? and in what aspect is it "better flowing". I am sorry but i know they a6 is definately a STRONG motor....I have driven one and I was amaized at how much power was there. I think that this hybrid wouold possibly be good. My buddy has a 2nd gen teg with an 89 head on it. For some reason, it is literally THE FASTEST stock 2nd gen I have ever been in. he pulls on gsr 2nd gens, 3rd gens, and he can beat an Si of pretty much an year. I am not saying this could not be a bad idea, but why not vtec is all I was asking and you answered my question.

Timing belt will be a D15B2 belt, the A6 belt is longer because of teh added deck height of the 1.6L block. The water pumps on the A6,B2,Z6 (just not the y8) are the same. And for the record, a b2 head and a6 head are identical, but heads used for the a6 are the ones with the best (smoothest) casting thus they flow slightly better. The A6 also has a more aggressive cam and slightly stiffer valve springs.

And I cannot confirm that the A6 out flows a Z6 or Y8 head. But stock for stock on a a6 block a Y8 head will yeild the most power due to the small combustion chamber which increases compression.

I think you are a little optimistic about those times. He said he had a stock gutted ef with an A6. Those times he posted, 9.952 leads me to believe that is an 1/8th mile track, not a 1/4 mile. If that was a quarter mile time, he would have to be fully built pushing 30psi, fully tuned and drag slicks. (that is definately not stock)

By better flowing than a y8 or z6, I am pretty sure he means CFM. (Cubic Feet per Minute). Meaning the A6 head will flow more CFM of air than the y8 or z6. I remember reading that as well. As far as head CFM flow.. A6 > Z6 > Y8. I also read that the Y8 head flows slightly better than dog ****. Obviously there is sarcasm there, but if anyone can say otherwise and prove it, I'll gladly admit I am wrong.

Good info. You learn something new everyday. I also know the b2 and a6 heads are ported the same.

Yes, 1/8 mile track, unfortueatly we don't have any 1/4 mile tracks that are close by. But those times are not bull ****, I assure you. I'm just saying that the a6 is probably one of the best non vtec single cams there is, it damn sure has *****!

I'm not here to say my old car is faster that this and that. I was just sharing a story, if you don't like it thats your own problem, BUT its truth!
