Default Fiberglass Gauge Pod for Steering Column

Well I want to have a semi sleeper look so I didn't want anything on the a pillar at all and I didn't want to have everything down low so I have to take my eyes off the road when I'm driving. So I got constructive and made this. I'm actually considering making another with 3 in it or two on the sides and make a spot for a wideband display in between them

Well here it is. Its a start. Thats Celery soup on the left and mushroom on the left.

Here it is after a few layers of glass and some bondo and sanding.

Here it is with a layer of paint on it. Thats a friends supra in the background. God damn does it handle twenty times better than my civic.

Here is the finished product. You can turn the wheel and it doesn't rub at all. I'm going to put my new oil pressure gauge in there too.

the other 2 5/8" gauge

Whats that in the background? Oh its my 6" JRC! woot. Does Tyrus ever know how to package something up. I couldn't believe it.

Wala. Questions are welcome.

i'm sure he's a bit taller than what the picture is showing the view of... if not, he wouldn't even be able to see over his steering wheel. let alone redline

man I';ve been wanting one of these, everytime I find them for sale, they are for a supra or rx-7 or something NON honda.

You should make more of these and start to sell them. i would buy one.

Only suggestion is make them father apart so that the gauges are more at the corners of the column instead of on top. For us short guys, on top is going to be in the way of all the other gauges.

Good **** though

Hey guys,
THanks for the compliments. I'm about 5"11 and I can see the gauge needles resting at 0 as well as Redline. I took the picture a bit lower than what I actually see myself sitting in the seat.

Yes its made out of soup cans. They are exactly 2 5/8" inside for the gauge.

looks good.i've been wanting to do something similar for my daily driver to prevent any unnecessary attention from gauges on the pillar.
did you consider using 2" gauges to block less of the cluster-i know that the pic you posted isn't representative of your actual view, but when i've screwed around holding 2" gauges there they look to be about as big as you'd want there.

I thought about using 2" gauges but a deal came along for a 2 5/8" boost gauge for dirt cheap so I bought the oil pressure one to match it. I'll have a pic later of it in the car.. not the best quality but you'll get the idea.

You can see the ribbed marks on the inside of the pods. HaHa!

Awesome DIY job!

Here it is with the other gauge installed. I got a pic on a computer at my parents house of it in the car. The pic shows you can see the gauges fine. Who cares about anything over 160-170km/hr because I won't be driving above that. Only coming near it on the track.

it is funny all the stuff you can use with fiberglass. Years ago when i was 17 i asked my mom for some panty hose she looked at me like i was crazy. But now it is a center channel in my coupe and people dont even notice it because it looks like it is stock or they ask where i bought it.

I used a mold release agent and polished the part with it and I put down some glass over it and then started building the pods. The release agent doesn't let the fiberglass to stick to the original part.
