Car makes clunking sound when accelerating, maybe transmission; help!
I have a 1995 Honda Accord 4cyl auto transmission. The problem is that it makes a clunking sound when I accelerate. I remember it happening when I ran the car kinda fast/past 110. It seems to be louder on the lower gears (1st and 2nd) The noise gets louder when it tries to shift between 1st and 2nd. Once it gets going to about 40 mph I can harder hear the clunking, but I figure it is because the car is going faster.
I have had the car for about two years. I had never had a problem before but I guess I deseve it for running it too fast; right?
I am a rookie. Any suggestions or ideas of what it could be would be greatly appreciated. I am going to take it to a mechanic soon, I just want to know what I should or could expect to hear.
Thanx

Well I went out to a couple of mechanics and found out that my problem could be big. I discovered that the noise appears when the RPMs go up. So, for example, I have it in park, I press on the gas, the noise gets louder the more I press.(the clunking noise.) When the car is shifting, the same thing happens, the car gets ready to shift, the rpms go up, and the noise gets louder.
