Default v-tec and non v-tec exhausts

is there a difference? definatly need to replace the stock exhaust that was treated to a welded on ghetto muffler before i bought the car. i'm thinking apexi ws or something else decently quiet but a good tone to it and was wondering since i'll be h22 swapping i'll need a h22 header/downpipe and from cat back i need something for non v-tec or does it not matter? sorry i'm i sound retarded, just got off work and it's time for bed

the only thing different between the two exhuasts is the test pipes bolt. buy a Vtec cat convert and it will bolt it up.

Yup, exactly what IAluder95 said, the vtec cat. is a little longer so all you need is one of those.

so i'll need vtec header, downpipe and if i choose to replace the cat-back system, i'll need to get a v-tec cat. but if I don't, the v-tec header and downpipe will all i need for now?

I think they are trying to say that to use a VTEC header and downpipe on a non-VTEC exhaust and engine setup that you'd need to also use a VTEC cat converter too (it's apparently longer).

no, this is on a v-tec motor. i am swappipng in an h22 from an h23 4th gen. once the h22 is in i will need v-tec header and downpipe if i retain stock cat-back.

if i replace cat-back i will need to buy v-tec cat and cat-back

(please correct me if I am wrong)

OK, so you're swapping the engine then too. It's probably the same thing. You'll need up to the cat converter since the converter on the VTEC engines are longer...

ok you have an h23 your swapin in a H22.

you want to use your H23 exhuast. you dont need to change anything, but the cat. header should come with the motor swap.

ok, so since the header comes with it bolt up the h23 downpipe, v-tec cat, and h23 cat back?

So there is no difference between a non vtec and vtec cat back system? sorry it's hard to understand since i've heard a lot of different stories

You're making it harder than it really is.

You have a few options.

1. Use the stock h22 exhaust manifold and downpipe, have it lengthend or
reduceed (I can't remember which one ) and bolt it up to your h23 catylitic converter.

2. Buy an aftermarket h22 header/downpipe and get an aftermarket cat (carsound/random technology, etc.),
have a muffler shop bolt everything up for you.

3. Same as option 2 but go with custom exhaust from the downpipe back.

I used the h23 downpipe (dc header) with an h22 dc exhaust manifold
(upper portion) and custom exhaust.

It just depends on what kind of budget your on.

If it's a tight one, go with option 1.
