Yay! my rear 6x9s blew... Any suggestions?
Well, yeah... My Kenwood Excelon KFC-X698 3-Way ways had something happen, the big woofer on the passenger side separated or blew, I dont know which... long story short.. I need new ones.. or do I... we will see..
Replacements are 179... TOO MUCH, I bought them for less... way less....
My dilema is that I want to keep Kenwood Excelon throughout my system, but I see I may have to change that...
Any suggestions for a high sound quality 6x9 used for rear fill? I can power it with 40-60 watts RMS with my amp.

are 6x9 the only speaker you would want? i would reccomend a 6x9 filler panel with 6.5 seperates, but thats me. try shopping.com and search for whatever 6x9s you want, they usually have good prices
interesting... I guess I could in fact use a smaller speaker, like a 6.5, use an MDF wood board ... if it would fit... but reguardless... the hole is a 6x9.. so yeah... and about kenwood, they sound crystal clear, but yeah, I would be all Alpine if i could do it all over again, but I cannot... I am extremely pleased with my Kenwood Excelon setup, with this one exception, but eh, we will see....
i've had good experience with pioneer 4 way 6x9s, i had a cutlass with 4 on the rear dash and everyone thought i had subs, you get good bass, nice mids and with the 4 ways you get decent highs, just my opinion. i have all sony in my crx , dont really like sony but it came with the car , wish it was all pioneer.

I meant $179 was too much for those speakers... I got them for 140. That is all... Anyways, it appears I had a coil get stuck or something. A tech guy said it could happen again, or could be some freak thing. In anycase, if it happens again it is because I got a defective speaker and the coils are failing etc... until then... I am saved.

not necessarily.... and as I said... with fronts only it sounds like front speakers and a subwoofer... it doesnt blend in, I know where everything is exactly.. the rear sounds hollow...
while I can deal with that, it is not what I am going for...
in either case, the speakers are working, then broken, then working... appearantly, they are going bad, but we will see what really happens...

have you tried setting up your front stage properly??

hrm, define properly... would it include, correct crossovers from the sub to fronts? Yes...
Tuning for a flat as possible sweep... Yes... Adjust sound stage to be higher by placing additional tweets in the A pillars...stock location... Yes Was that effective... Yes, very...
I dont see how adjusting the fronts any... could make up for the fact that the sub definitely sounds in the back alone with front stage only... and to the point where you can point it out... Is it turned up too loud? nope.. it is balanced for quality, not boomyness...
The fronts alone sound wonderful... the sub is great too... the problem is the hollowness and separation that can be heard between the two while playing.

what are you crossing your sub at? have you thought about dedicated midbass drivers for the front to eliminate this "hollowness" or gap you have.

if you want 6x9 I reccomend Crossfire Audio sx69. If you go w/ a 6x9 plate to use 6.5" speakers I reccomend RE Audio XXX 6.5" components. The XXX is a nice mid-bass speaker and the tweeter it comes w/ is nice.
80hz usually, though I could use 60hz, it just doesnt make that big of a difference, if any... but it does seem more stable at 80hz at high volume...
by dedicated midbass, you mean a component set correct? I dont have that kind of cash at the moment to get a nice powerful set up front... besides, my fronts put pleanty out, the doors are currently sound deadened, sealed, and have MDF ring in use.. so they put out enough I would think at the moment..... besides that, I have some component tweeters in use... so I would end up paying for extra tweeters I would not use .... hence my dilema...

by dedicated midbass i mean a dedicated midbass driver not a componet set. a speaker installed preferably up front that will play only midbass frequencies. I'm slightly confused about your setup though, you say you use component tweeters, what about mids? dont tell me you're using stock???

no, ive got 6.5 inch 2 ways up front, installed as a single component set, in other words... it has a bar from the outter ring of the midbass cone to the tweeter... then, I have separate tweeters installed in the stock A pillar position. As for the crossovers, currently, both highs, and sub are at 80... I can go down to 60, but I dont think it makes a difference, I have tried... I even tried 60 front and 80 sub, no difference really...
easy..... I had coaxials, then I bought tweeters to replace the factory and raise the soundstage.. it worked... It was all about money...
Now, it has a great stage and I fear getting sounds that float, highs sounding high in the car, and mid-low sounding like they come from the floor...
I really dont see how that is a strange set up at all....

to me at least...it seems strange to have multiple sets of tweeters up front.
my whole mentality for car audio is that rear speakers should be a total after-thought and isnt even necessary. I'd put all your money into the front stage and get it as good as it can be.

and think about it, if u would have dished out the extra $40 to buy the kenwood excelons from an authorized dealer u wouldnt be paying anything rite now because u would have had a full 2 yr warranty. Saving a few bucks isnt always the best idea.
Buy kicker SSMB6's and build a plate for em they are only mid-bass, they wont screw up ur imaging, n theyll work rite in ur power range. I put SSMB8's in the back of my friends RSX and they sound phenomenal, I have nvr heard a car with more mid-bass.

I did get it from a Kenwood authorized dealer... guess what? It was over 2 years ago... DONT ASSUME... Also, I wouldn't touch kicker....
The prices just go up and down at this place. I happened to get them cheaper.
Anyways... if I sell my tweeters, I will be getting components, I more or less fixed the 6x9s, but I just cant seem to be satisfied lol....
So really... How much RMS wattage are you all running up front?

kfc-x698 is a 2004 part number so assuming that they are under 2 yrs old is safe.
they were replaced by this years kfc-x690s.
Kickers SS series is thier top of the line they will sound better than your excelons. and they arent that expensive they are $249 for a set. why wont u touch kicker?
