so I have taken the back seats out, and everything in the trunk out an now I get a horrific rattle that is occurring when I hit a bump our a disperportionate piece of road. any experience with solving this problem?

it may be your suspension or something under your car...
after you take out the seats you hear WAY more noise.

 

Check exhaust rubber hanger

 

put tape on the hatch striker and see if that stops the rattle then go from there
