A 92 4ws si is for sale for 1500 the cv joints are going on it and the engine is a lil loud, no specific knocks or anything just loud thats probably cause it has 200k miles on it. is this car worth it? any input would be great thanks guys

Id say buy it and spend 100 bucks on some used axles, then if theres any small engine problems deal with them, if not just wait till it gives out then do an H22 swap.

Thank you very much, I know it's probablly somewhere else but im not sure if it would be different to swap H22 into 4ws but with installation about how much would it cost to swap? or how much would it to swap a lower milage H23 in? Thanks again for helping

you can swap a h22 into a 4ws lude while retaining 4ws, my lude has been swapped like that - as well as a few other members on this board. how much it will cost will depend on who you get to do the swap (or if you do it yourself) and the price you get on the new engine w/ p13 ecu and whether you want the h22 tranny, or will use the h23 tranny - etc etc. so yea hard to put a definite price on things.

if it's just loud, but no other knocks etc, could just be the exhaust gasket leaks, or there is a crack in a pipe/header or something.. more investigative work will probably find the source.

if you find your 4ws to be intermitant after purchase - there is a good fix by wstef floating around this board.

best of luck, and enjoy if you do buy it.

If the car's engine is already known to be on it's last leg, and the axles are bad, I would assume that the clutch is original too. If that's the case, just do the H22 swap. Don't waste money temporarily fixing the current drivetrain.

My 92 Si 4WS ran well but it needed a lot of work. The timing belt and water pump were due for replacement, clutch was bad, axles leaking, and the engine seals needed to be replace. It was the BEST decision to replace all the maintanence itmes on the H22 and swap it in.

As for the price, offer $1000.

I just bought a 92 si 4ws with a bodykit (nothing flashy) jdm headlights, and a h23 w/ a cracked block and bent valves for $500. I am going to need some cosmetic work, and am going to do a h22 swap.

besides all that crap thet may be useless to you, i'd say go get a kelly blue book price on the car and if the motor is probably going to give soon, get a dealer to price out a new motor and do the cv work.. with all that tallied up on paper in his face, you'll probably make him think 1500 is way too much... **** what am i saying? offer him a grand tops

I say get the price down as far as you can and do the h22 swap and fix whatever else needs to be fixed. If its red, chances are you need a paint job too. Anyway, even at 1500 and an h22 swap + axles + clutch. You should come out ahead or even. Try to get the price below 1000 best you can. I guarantee you that youll like the 4WS. Gl man.
