Default tires? cant choose...

im not sure if i posting in the correct forum

its time for new tires for my integra. i currently have 16 inch wheels and looking for a performance tire that is going to last long. im debating between:

1. Falken Ziex ZE-512 http://www.discounttiredirect....r=45 -->$68.00 ea.
2. Kumho Ecsta ASX http://www.discounttiredirect....ar=45 -->$78.00 ea.

I also live in WA so it rains frequently. im taking that into consideration

has anyone used these tires? how have they been?
any input would be great

thanks

matt

I'd go with the Falkens. These aren't that great of performance tires. If you want to spend a little more, I'd go with Yokohama ES-100s. Awesome tires!!

haha, i was looking at those also but the tread wear rate number is only 280. dont get me wrong, i think those tires are rad. im just looking for something that is going to last a bit longer.

thanks man

so far seems like the kumhos are winning..thanks for all the input.

I totally hear ya bro, but the tires you listed above aren't really the best for performance. I understand you want a tire that lasts, so get what you like the best! Good luck!

I 2nd the Yokohama AVS ES100. When I lived in Seattle, my 205/40-17 Yokohama Paradas did great and my current ES100s are even better. They are great in wet & dry and they only weigh 19.81 lbs.
Amongst your choices, I'd go with the Falken Ziex ZE-512 (20.1 lbs). I've heard those Falkens are decent and I've never liked all-seasons much unless you really need them. Have you also considered the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712?

Personally I want to get a tire in the '98 Spec ITR size, 215/45-16. Unfortuantely there are only 3 decent tires that I can find that are made in that size, the Yokohama A022H0 ($208 each ), the Falken Azenis RT-215 (22.8 lbs), and the new Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (21 lbs). I wish Yokohama would make a ES100 215/45-16. I'd grab that in a split second.

I bought Kumho ASX's for our TL and will be buying them for my Integra. They're a good all season high performance tire at a really good price. I thought about getting AVS ES 100's, but they don't provide enough tread for me. I drive about 25K+ miles a year and didn't want to buy new tires every year.

I think the ASX's are a great value and a good tire. Read the reviews on Tirerack and you'll see that most agree.

Damn I didn't know the ASXs had a 420 TR . I've never had anything above 300 on my 'teg. I guess if you are looking for something that will last forever, they're great.
I had a set of Yokohama Parada's last for 27K miles and they only have a tread rating of 300. I didn't over-wear them either, barely riding on the the wear-bars. And I'm not exactly a calm driver.

Kumho gets my vote.
they rate well consistently in tests, and I've been putting them on my cars everytime I need tires and haven't been disappointed yet.

yea well i ordered the kumho ASX they ended up being the same price as the Falken's. OUT the door at $456.21 with mounting and balancing . i figured for the same price i might as well get a Z rated tire with a 420 tread life.

i do go to school on the other side of the state so i drive over the mountains several times a year

i heard that the kumho asx were a brand new tire so they arent very popular yet...i have no idea for sure though...once i get them on i'll let you know how they are doing

thanks for all the replies

Must not have had too much done to the suspension then. I have ES-100s on my teg with a good suspension setup (front and rear solid strut bars, 26mm front sway, 22mm rear sway/tie comptech bar, KYB adjustables and s2 springs) and I have no problems with skidding what so ever. Not a squeek out of mine unless im rounding an on ramp top of 3rd. Plus, they are awesome in the rain!!

If you see any snow at all, the Ziex would be your best bet. I'll probably be using those when I move back to the East. Otherwise, you don't need an all-season tire...you can get a better tire like the ES100. Not my favorite tire, but they're in your price range.

For the wet, the best tire I've ever used is the Eagle F1 GS-D3. They're amazing in the rain.

BF Goodrich KD-W are the best tires for me. the only issue was, they wear out so fast but grips very well..and also the sidewall is so hard. Ive some pothole and never bubble up. BTW they are designed to run flat...a little pricey but worth dollar value
