89 crx SUNROOF problems.... what else is new
ok everyone i searched this like 500 times and read soo many write ups but couldnt find the answer to my question.
i bought my crx about 5months ago as a project car but never really worried about the sunroof becuase it never worked when i used it. i want to get it working but i dont know whats wrong with it. i cleaned my switch out today but i have a feeling thats not it. whats the best thing to do? test power to the motor, and then test the motor? if i do that and the motor and powers good does that leave me with a broken switch?
ide rather not take the whole sunroof out but if you think i should i will. let me know!
oh and to test the motor how do i do that? what kind of battery can i use? i dont think i have a drill battery, my stuff plugs into the wall. THANKS

there is also sunroof relay(s).
located on the lower left area of the fuse block. need instructions to test?
also if you have to test the motor
1) aaarrrggg.... remove the headliner
2) disconnect the 4pin connector at the motor
3) coonect battery power to pins 3&4 (looking at the conn w/ tab up; these are the two right pins)
4) if motor doesn't operate--replace

thanks.. how do i test the relay.. my relay looks rigged up. it has a random green wire wrapped around the metal part of the fuse..???
and whats the biggest battery i can use without messing it up and how would i connect the two pins to the battery

that sounds like where your problem is going to be solved
1)remove the relay
2) the relay has a tab/indention and 4 horizontal terminals
3) hold relay with tab up --top left is terminal a --bottom left b --top right c --bottom right d
4) terminals a and b are the switching terminals which are an open circuit when the relay is de-energized...reading with a ohmmeter a-b should have continuity when battery voltage is connected to the relay coil connections c & d. no continuity a-b when battery is disconnected.
you will need to make some jumpers or buy leads from rip-offshack (radio shack) that have alligator clips at each end. i rigged 8 D cells in series (battery holder available at RS or fry's). this will give ~12VDC good for testing relays
