Default Installed new clutch - Help!

Ok, so my friend and I put in a new Exedy clutch in my 99 Si. We took out the tranny and everything, got flywheel resurfaced, installed clutch and pressure plate and torqued to specs. Reassembled trans and everything else. I did take off the slave cylinder that goes to the fork that presses the throwout bearing. Now some of the clutch fluid did leak out, and I also noticed it has a bleeder valve on the slave cylinder. In my resvior it is definitly low, like i can see just a little bit, not filled up. Do we need to bleed the air out like brakes?

So we assembled it all, and the clutch was really mushy, kinda like if i had no brakes. So i pumped it up for a while and a while and it started to slightly feel better i think, and then all the sudden it completely let off and went all the way down to the floor and stayed there, no retraction. NO CLUTCH. Nothing.

It was getting late, and we reassembled the shift linkage, and my shifter all the sudden is very stiff. Takes force to move through gears, but when my clutch was mushy, we could shift it through the gears without grinding, except reverse. So maybe i need to re-examine my shift linkage. But the shifter is very hard.

I feel confident that we did everything right as far as installing the clutch and everything. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Ok, yes, I will check the linkage. My friend installed it, and he has never done it before, so that's probably it.

I will definitly bleed the clutch lines, and hopefully that will take care of my pedal. It doesn't seem right that it would just go out like that does it?!

Thanks
