lots of carbon buildup @ my exhaust tips...
I'm getting a lot of black carbon buildup on my exhaust tips. More than normal i would say. What could the problem be? whatever it is i'd like to get it taken care of pretty quik.
How often are you cleaning it and checking it as well? I know If I clean my exhaust tips, then do a generous amount of spirited driving over the next 2-4 days, i will have lots of carbon buildup on my exhaust tips. My car is stock though.

Our cars are supposed to run rich. It is tunned from the factory that way.
Give it a good cleaning now and then and forget it. Don't tweak the AF ratio on stock car. It is set as is to protect your car at high rev situation. Better to have enough fuel than driving around in highly compressed grenade.
Unless you are modified and getting truly excessive amount, don't lose sleep over it.

I have an 01 and I get a little on the bumper, but then again, it's a GPW. 00's and 01's are tuned the richest. 02's and 03's are a little leaner, hence the slight power difference. From what I've read on TOV, 04's and 05's are tuned a lot leaner and make a lot more power than previous model year cars.
A VAFC or similar device would be the cheaper short term answer. With a lot of mods, an AEM EMS would be what I'd do (but I'd at least want an intake, header, test pipe, and exhaust to make the most of it.)
