AEM c2di + aem 1020 ems wiring???'s
in the middle of hooking up my cdi box on a car im working on at the moment. ive read a few threads on here about other users not agreing on differant ways to wire the system up.
question #1 is, do i hook the wires up to the coils such as the manual says, than. install the coils in my engine according to the engines firing order??? or do i have to wire something differantly.
so i have a 4 cyl engine 1 2 3 4
firing order -->> 1 4 2 3 (1342 is firing order, according to cyl number, but 1423, accoring to spark event)
question #2...
the car is being run from a (tony1)Hall sensor. the sensor has 4 wires, (power, ground, cam, crank) i know what to do with the power/ground, but the cam & crank, hook these into the cam + and crank + ???

when i called aem last week, they said they have not started sending out the reformatted c2di boxes. I think he said it was going to be the end of july into august.... Doubt thats your problem, but im a noob when it comes to the c2di
I'm not sure about the c2di... but you may want to post here:

There are a few posts with how to wire up version 1.

the tuning setup is outlined in this post. (RIP first edition :roll

that may answer your questions about cam sensors as well. with my setup, i kept the factory crank trigger and the guts of the distributor minus the ignitor, and everything worked well.... till my cdi took a dump 8O</TD></TR></TABLE>
ok.
so the coil outputs coming from the ecu. (coil # 1-4) go to the ign inputs of the cdi(a-d) respectivly.
now on the engine side. do i install the coils in the engine according to cyl # or do i install them according to "firing" ?
the way aem has the cdi box setup is that the capacitors for coil # 1 &3 are on the same capacitor, and 2&4 are on the same capacitor.... so if i install the coils into the engine, and retain the 1342 firing order each capacitor would be getting drained 2 times in a row, where as if in install the coils in the engine, 1423, the capacitors would have time to "refill" between cyl's? ??? or do i have something mixed up???

I can only speak from the 30-1000 box.. Since it only have 2 coil output you must do a wastefire setup which will still allow plenty enough time for the coils to recharge between firings.. Basically you have 5 coils 1-5.. Since the 30-1000 box only has 2 coil ouputs (#1 and #3) you use coil outputs #1,#3, #6, and #8.. #1 and #6 are the same and #3 and #8 are the same..
There are 24 teeth in a obd1-obd2 honda dizzy so do the math 24/4=6, so every 6 teeth the ems must fire one of the coil sets.. Since the actual coils on cylinders #1 and #4 are together and #2 and #3 are together.. You would then fire coil output #1(cyl #1 and #4) at 0 teeth.... #3(cyl #2 and #3) at 6 teeth...... #6(cyl #1 and #4) at 12 teeth........ and #8(cyl #2 and #3) at 18 teeth..
Any way you set it up(correctly) doesnt matter with the firing order.. The firing order is determined in the ems software as to what coil output you fire at what spark tooth.. Basically cyl #1 needs to fire at 0 teeth, cyl #3 at 6 teeth, cyl #4 at 12 teeth, and #2 at 18 teeth.. How you get that to happen doesnt matter..
Also on a side note, the spark teeth just means how many dizzy teeth must pass before the cycle starts over again.. So you can say you have 12 teeth and cyls #1 and #4 go on 0 teeth and cyls #2 and #3 go on 6 teeth... Get the idea..

ok. i think i have it right. im going to hook it up/per the manual. than arange my coils in the proper order/per cyl. so my car will fire the normal honda sequence. the cyl #'s are 1234. and the firing order is 1342..... so that would mean that 1 is 1, 2 is 4, 3 is 2, and 4 is 3. so the aem will think its firing 1234, but will actually be firing my engine 1342, because of the "re-aranged" coils....... i just callled aem to confirm this, and they said it wil work. and verified that the coil#'s in their diagrams, arent the cyl numbers.
here is what im coming up with.
coil output # 1 brown --- tan (cyl #1)
coil output #2 orange--- pink (cyl #3)
coil output # 3 blue--- tan (cyl #4)
coil output #4 grey--- pink (cyl #2)
so in the end. my engine will spark cyl's 1342..... but my aem will be telling the cdi to go in the order of 1234. this will allow it to switch between each capacitor, between cyl's.
question #2... hall sensor hookup cam and crank get hooked into cam+ crank + respectivly.

coil output #2 orange--- pink (cyl #3)

going to have to change the injector outputs coming out of the ecu???? so that it would be arranged in the same order as the coils?? 1423
have you called the aem tech line? I know your trying to get your **** together, but it seems like the whole DIS on hondas is still pretty new and not alot of people have very much info on/about it. 310 484-2322 is the number

yea, i got a hold of them once yesterday. that was the first time i called, i tried calling back to ask and hopefully confirm a few things, but had no luck....out of the ~15-20 times i tried calling. btw... its extension 303 lol
im going to switch my firing order to 1234. it will work this way, because starting from the timing belt side the cyl #'s will be 1423. the only other thing i have to do is switch my injector outputs on the ecu, so that the correct color lines up with the correct cyl....so they will match the coil sticks.
i think i have it all figured out, ill let ya know within a week or so... still have some other things to finish up on the car.

send me your email address. i drew a diagram for setting up wastedspark and direct fire. I use them when I set up the cop for people. every car I've done started right up and never had a problem. the diagram also has the software changes that you need to make. its should answer your questions.
