Default loss of power please help!!!!

ok this is the deal i have a 96 prelude with a JDM h22a swap, Ive been having problems with some sputtering at the bottom end and at the top end its fine. The vtec kicks in and it feels like it wants to pull but it doesnt. Tonight i ran a buddy of mine with a stock GST Eclipse and he pulled on me instantly, i had no chance. I also had a code 9 at one time but me and a friend messed with the distributor and we got the code 9 off and also check engine light turned off too, But i still had a sputter in the exhaust at idle.I also change out the cap, rotor, plugs and wires and still had a problem, now im getting really bumed out on this. I also did the timing on it and got a second opinion on it and it was done right. So what can be my problem Iv searched and searched and still havent found an answer to my problem . Also can this be a big problem to my Big power loss? Please Help The new guy out! Thanks

a bad o2 sensor can cause sputtering and loss of power in low rpms, but that would usually throw either code 43 or 1.

sounds like u may be running really rich, pulls the plugs and check them for carbon deposits or just hook up a wide band o2 to check the a/f ratios...

Is there a possibility that his vtec solenoid could be messed up, because when vtec engages it feels very very weak.

you sure vtec is engaging? when i ran my h22 with a p14 (non vtec computer) it sounded kind of like vtec but it wasn't.

also, maybe you have the "prelude hesitation". a lot of us have it and for some of us it's reaaallly bad in hot weather. last summer my car ran like my mom's civic dx from 2-3.5k rpm. try taking it out at night when it's cold and see if it makes any difference.

hey did yuo check the distributor mine when i did the swap i had to buy a new one because it was oxidized in the inside plus recheck your your vaccum line. i know it sounds dumb but my freind with a 95 type R and it was 2 vaccum lines trust me check it change the VTEC solinoid filter, or rebuild the solinoid its easy its valves, external coil check the VTEC wires make sure they are right if any other mods let me know

I say its the o2 sensor. I had the same EXACT problem...temporarily, i added a VAFCII to add more fuel and it "kinda" corrected it...but i just threw a code 1 not too long ago. The o2 sensor code really won't come on - only half the time. So, i suggest changing that (stock o2).....and go from there.

well guys i pulled the plugs and found out their black meaning i am running rich!! I also changed out the o2 sensor only to find the sputter there again but b4 i did that i took the negative wire off of my battery to reset the ECU while i was doing the job and still nothing!! And i also checked for leaks and didnt find one yet. So whats next on the list look into a new distrbutor? Still no check engine lights either hummm. i also checked all grounds and they all look conected right. What else do yall guy suggest i do? Thanks for hearing me out guys!

adjust the distributor to spec and if it's still runnin hella rich then your cam timing might be off. pop your valve cover and check it out.

I tryed to adjust the idle and it didnt work and i know i have the right ECU its a P13 right? My obd-2 p14 wont work on it if i still have on the obd2,obd1 conversion harness , the plugs a different on the p14 meaning its obd-2 96 preludes and up. But yea i tryed to adjust it and it still sputters . Now i can gradually rev it and it sputters going up the RPM band. huh now im lost . But thanks man for your reply!

so you can hear the vtec kick in but it just doesn't pull like a motha.....
i can almost guarantee you its the cat....its probably clogged.....i had the exact same problem as you and i was getting pissed off because 91 teg w/ b18b near stock was kicking my ***....and i was running times of 16second + at the 1/4 mile.....when i switched out the cat......bam.....was running 15.1....sooooo try the cat.....its not that expensve.....even cheaper then the o2 sensor and also if it was a bad o2 then i think you would get a CEL?
anyways thats what i think it is....
