Trading vs Manual convert
Hey. I have an automatic 02 civic LX sedan. I want to go manual. I got quoted around $2400 for a convertion for all parts and labor. What do you think i'd get if i tried to swap the car for a 2002 LX manual instead? or 2002 EX manual? I understand that taxes, paperwork, plate transfer and all taht stuff might add up to about $500 but i'd rather spend less and get it right, then spend more and risk a f*ckup...
Opinions will be appreciated.
(and no "get the newer one" or "get hatchback" or anything like that, need to keep "same" car.)
Thanks!

Well to actually answer your question and not question you.....i would say just trade the car. It is too much trouble to do a swap of that kind. IF you are gonna swap the tranny you mind as well also do a motor swap. Im assuming you have some mods done thats why you want to keep the car. Well take em off, trade, and have more peice of mind.
thanks bodussy, djmota. i think ill find out about that then. the reason i want manual is because it will be easier to wire stuff for nitrous, sounds better with exhaust, and more fun. i dont care about traffic, my legs are in fine condition.

I have a Eg and successfully had the car converted from Auto to Manual. It did not cost me nearly as much as you were quoted. Id bet like a little bid under $500, if that. ( I also had bought an a B16 w/ Tranny, so I did not have to pay for a new tranny). It works fine and just the same like it would if the car started out like a manual. You may have to get a new tranny mount one for an manual tranny into an auto chassis...Hasport? perhaps. In all honestly you should trade your car for a manual and save that 2400 or whatever it was for a nifty upgrade... any thing short of forced induction. I think I may have wrote too much...... good luck and keep us updated.
thanks for the info. most im willing to pay for a swap would be about $1500 parts and labor. lol (im cheap). but i fear a trade would come out around the same price, if not more. read a little on how it works and talked to a friend who works for carmax.
Well, you can swap the tranny if you plan on keeping that car until it starts to rust... Doing something so radical as a mod will depreciate your car a lot -- your VIN won't match up to the manual ones and if you sell your car and they carmax it -- they'll see. HTH.
