Finally found my car
After losing the best car in the world (ok, so I'm biased) a '91 dx hatch to some ignoramus who couldn't manage to drive his beemer and talk on his phone at the same time (walking and chewing gum a problem I wonder?), I've finally found my new ride, a 1991 Civic Si hatch with no rust on the body, and hardly any underneath. For this part of the world, it's a minor miracle.
Anyhow, the B16A6 runs smooth, and apart from a shot muffler, there isn't much to do, but I had a few questions for any fellow Marylanders on the board.
Any inspection stations that you recommend in the Baltimore area? It shouldn't be a problem, because the suspension is tight, dampers are good and all the lights and whatnot work. On the other hand, I could just see some petty bureaucrat making my day difficult. I work with government clients all the time, I have a right to be paranoid.
More generally, what are the rules for engine swaps in Maryland? I'm not planning anything soon, being more or less broke at the moment, but the powerplant has 150k on it, and although it's pulling like crazy (the difference between the B16A6 and a B15D2 is amazing ... 16 horses don't seem like all that much) I'm sure the time will come to put a new engine in there. Frankly, this is a daily driver, so I'm not going to go crazy with a swap when it does come to it, but it is nice to know my options.
Also, and this one is for all Hondaphiles, everyone knows that the stock CVs are the only thing Honda didn't really do well in this series of cars. I actually killed one on a pothole in my old car (a big pothole, but sheesh). Are the custom high HP shafts I see out there any better for wear? Again, I'm talking about mostly sedate (partially comatose) commuting ... er ... mostly.
Any advice would be welcome. I'm pretty much a shade-tree kind of mechanic, but given enough time I can get pretty much anything done.
Thanks,
BadNeurons

LMAO! Bimmer drivers do always seem to be talking on the phone? And let me guess, it was one of the lower Bimmers too huh. Like a 323i.
