Im about to slap the b16 head on the ls using the golden eagle kit and head studs. Do you guys have any tips for me that would help or speed up the process? Anything I should watch out for? I got all the main things I need but was wondering if there are any small things I would need like teflon tape, etc.? Also about the timing belt.. all I do is slide it over so I can get the ls head off and slide it back on the cam gears when the head is on and assembled? Thanks guys..

It's always a good idea to teflon tape the threaded fittings for all the oil lines. Make sure to use some assembly or cam lube for the cams when reinstalling them. Use an air compressor and clean out the head bolt holes, coolant passages, etc. in the block and head. Not sure if the head has been thoroughly cleaned and checked but that's always a good idea too.

To take it off, just loosen the tensioner pulley and it'll give you the slack to slide it off. I would not reuse the belt unless it's almost new. If you are keeping the stock LS water pump then you will need to use an LS belt. It's best to upgrade to a GSR oil and water pump, in which case you would then need a GSR timing belt.

It's below the mount, there should be (if it's still there) a small round rubber plug on the timing cover. Pop it out and that will let you access the tensioner bolt.

ahh yes i remember what your talking about. sorry, i have never done a timing belt job myself so im trying to avoid it haha. so all i would have to do is loosen it and then tighten it back up with the cam gears at tdc and everything should be straight?

If you've never changed a timing belt, it would be a good idea to get someone to help out that has. At the very least I'd get a manual that somewhat walks you through it. It's not a very hard thing to do, but if it's not done right it could cause some serious problems...

Yeah i do have a manual but since my timing belt is basically new i wouldnt have to go through all those steps right? Just loosen the tensioner and then tighten it back up with the cam gears at tdc? or is it more complicated than that?

Changing the oil pump doesn't affect the type of belt to be used but the water pump does. The GSR, B16, ITR water pumps have a larger gear so you need to use a GSR timing belt. The LS pump has a smaller gear so if you use the LS water pump you need an LS timing belt.
