Driver was wearing an open face helmet and is still in a comma, from what I've read.

Swerved to avoid some debris flying from a car in front of him and lost control.

open faced helmet + bent wheel = hospital time

I read that the driver and pass. went to the hospital

Ouch, the passenger slid from under the 4-point harness and ended up in the footwell....

This is very sad news. My prayers go out to both for a speedy recovery. Never really understood why that wall was put there in the first place!

Guys, make sure you understand that 4 point harnesses are useless and are for show cars. If he had the harness on tight it probably tore him up pretty good.

Also, atleast they had a "direct" hit head on. It could have been a lot worse if the car was traveling sideways.

god, that is too bad. it looks like there is a small berm beyond the wall? maybe that is the reason it is there? edit: "corner" worker station. you wouldn't catch me behind that.

any news?

wishing both the best.

Ditto that. And if there's some debris on your line and it's smaller than you, hit it. Don't adjust your line. My very first instructor taught me that lesson and I'll never forget it. Luckily I didn't have to learn it the hard way.

I hope everyone makes full recoveries.

all 4 points

without a submarine belt, its not safe.

What a really bad idea to place a permanent fence perpendicular to the track.

stay stong

I was just about to say that. The 5th point isn't just a submarine belt, it also positions the center buckle in the right place.

i've scoured a few forums...

passenger fractured her collarbone and has been released from the hospital. driver apparently broke every bone in his face, still in serious condition, but stable.

Default even with 5/6 point, you still need a H&N

Could have been worse if they had a 5/6 without H&N.
There's only dirt behind that wall. Complete stop!

What? You can't be serious.

That wall protects a worker station, which happened to be un-occupied.
